FOREWORD
This Standard has been developed by Engineering Services Department (PT), reviewed by
Corporate HSE & Quality Department (BC) and User Departments before endorsement by QP
Management for use as “QP STANDARD FOR DEVELOPMENT OF TECHNICAL DRAWINGS”.
This Standard shall be applied to all 2D Drafting. In the context of drawings, this Standard shall
also apply to development of Schedules, Lists, etc. prepared in Excel format. (Refer to 6.2.2
Table 3). The document number (ES.D.10) and format has been revised in line with QP
Management System Procedures QP-IMS-PRC-001 and QP-IMS-PRC-002. Accordingly
ES.D.10 is superseded by this Standard.
The issue of this Standard includes Standard CAD requirements formerly defined under
Engineering Standard ES-0-01-0015. In addition this Standard includes delivery requirements
of native files and their review requirements for compliance checks to the following Engineering
Standards:
This Standard includes specific Refining Operations - OM (R) requirements which are identified
throughout this Standard using bold italic text where required. See Section (2.0).
*Note: QP Standards and Documents referenced in section (5.0) will be updated occasionally.
The same will be issued for review separately from this Standard as and when required. Users
of this Standard are advised to check for the latest version of the referenced Standards.
The Custodian of this Standard is the Manager, Engineering Info & Standards (PTD), who is
responsible for the accuracy and quality of its contents and for its future revisions, where these
are required to reflect industry trends or changes to QP business practices. All comments,
recommendations, clarifications about this document shall be forwarded to PTD.

1.0 OBJECTIVE
The objective of this Standard is to identify the development process for the preparation
of all Technical Drawings and to ensure that they are prepared to a single standard.
2.0 SCOPE
2.1 This Standard defines the drafting and AutoCAD requirements when preparing or revising
all Technical Drawings.
2.2 In addition, it defines quality review requirements for compliance to this Engineering
Standard from the initiation or revising of the drawing to its final As-Built and Handover
to Qatar Petroleum (QP).
2.3 Text in bold Italics indicate their applicability ONLY for Refining Operations –
OM(R).
3.0 APPLICATION
3.1 This Standard shall be complied with by engineering personnel working for and on behalf
of QP while developing Technical Drawings.
3.2 Strict compliance with this Standard is mandatory. Any exceptions or deviations from this
Standard, along with their merits and justification, shall be brought to the attention of the
Custodian (PTD) for review, approval and amendment as required. A Proposal/Appraisal
for Variance of Engineering Standards shall be raised from PTD Engineering Information
Request System (EIRS) located in the QP Intranet through the following path: QPNet>>e-
Services>>Oil and Gas>>EIRS.

5.2 In all instances, users of this Standard shall refer to the latest approved version of the
above Standards. The latest approved versions are as posted on QP Intranet under
Engineering Services Department. For confirmation of the latest approved versions,

5.3 For Refining Operations - OM (R) Specific Documents are listed in Appendix 4.
Drawings shall conform to the sizes specified in ISO 5457; nevertheless, for practical
reasons, sizes (full scale) shall be limited as shown in Table 1 below:

Note: * In certain cases, the use of A0 size is essential, but this should be restricted as
far as possible to avoid handling and storing difficulties due to their large size.
** With exception of Isometrics A2 sizes are ‘Non-Standard’ in QP and can only
be used after approval of the Custodian (PTD) of this Standard. Refer to section
(3.0).
6.2.1.1 Native versions (AutoCAD) of the blank drawing border templates in model space are
issued to CONTRACTORS/CONSULTANTS along with the Standard for each contract.
For QP In–House Work, these are available on QP Intranet under Engineering Services
Department.
6.2.1.2 The Standard AutoCAD templates have been created to ensure data is presented to QP
in a consistent and standardized manner.
6.2.1.3 These templates shall not be modified in any way. Exception here is to replace “Sht.
Con’t on” with “Sheet of” for Refining Operations - OM (R) Projects. This shall be
achieved by AutoCAD COMMAND “ED” to maintain the attribute.
6.2.1.4 The drawing borders are set to actual ISO Standard ‘A’ sizes and includes by default the
border spacing, title blocks (6.3) with standard attribute dialog box. The borders are by
default set in models space at base point 0, 0 (X, Y = 0, 0) to standard A size, see section
(6.1).
6.2.1.5 When preparing drawing plots to paper space, blank drawing border in model space
shall be copy-paste to paper space using copy with base point (X,Y = 0,0) in full scale
1:1.
6.2.1.6 For descriptive and reference purposes, Standard AutoCAD Templates are listed in
Table 2 below.

6.2.2.1 For Refining Operations - OM (R), Specific MS Excel Sample Templates refer to
Appendix D. These Templates are available from Refining Operations - OM (R)
Project Focal Point. For Templates, which are not available in Appendix D, users
of this Standard shall use Templates as defined in this section.
6.2.2.2 The Standard MS Excel Templates native files are issued to CONTRACTORS/
CONSULTANTS along with the Standard for each contract. For QP In-House Work,
these are available on QP Intranet under Engineering Services Department.
6.2.2.3 These templates shall not be modified in any way without written consent from the
Custodian (PTD) of this Standard (See 3.0).
6.2.2.4 It shall be noted that the templates listed in Table 3 below show the minimum
requirements as regards to the information fields. Users may use other means of
creating this information i.e. external databases etc. However the final native files shall
be either MS Excel or MS Access.
6.2.2.5 For descriptive and reference purposes, Standard Excel Templates are listed in Table
3.

6.2.3.1 The Standard MS Word Template native file Doc. No. ES-0-08-0020 is issued to
CONTRACTORS/CONSULTANTS along with the Standard for each contract. For QP
In-House Work, these are available on QP Intranet under Engineering Services
Department.
Note: This Template or any A4 Word Document shall not be used as a cover sheet for
drawing packages of any kind.
6.3.1 The title block is embedded within the standard AutoCAD borders as detailed in section
(6.2). All information shall be completed within the title block through the Edit Attributes
dialog box. The text size, style and position are already defined by default within the title
block attribute. The title block attributes and properties shall not be modified, exploded,
re-arranged or altered in any way. Title text may be in Capitals or in Title Text.
6.3.2 The drawing / document titles (for both AutoCAD and Excel) shall define accurately the
content of the drawing including relevant systems, specific locations and tag numbers as
well as elevations and deck names (Top Deck, Caller Deck etc.) as relevant.
6.3.3 The below serves as general guidance for drawing titles:
Line 1: Operational Area*, Unit Number, followed by the drawing Location Code
Line 2: Project Title
Line 3: Project Title Continued (As required) or Tag Number or Equipment

6.3.4 Contract Number
QP Contract Number when applied, shall be provided in the allocated space of the Title
block.
6.5.1 The minimum height, in mm, of letters and figures within the drawing shall be as follows:

6.5.2 The exception to these heights is annotation text, for example, small bore valve tags in
P & ID, where the minimum height could be 2.0 as the case may be for some of the dense
and complex P & IDs. This exception could also be applied for annotation text appearing
in similar situations for other schematic drawings. Further exception is heights of
dimension text for Civil Layouts and Survey Drawings, where the minimum height shall

be 2.5 regardless of drawing format. All printing shall be readable from either the bottom
or right hand side of the drawing. The language shall be in English.
6.5.3 Text in AutoCAD drawings shall use the default text style ST1 as the standard text style
and shall be set to Annotative. The following Default settings shall be used:

6.5.4 The font name romans.shx is the default character font for all the text in drawings except
for the Consultant box; for the logo; in the title box, where the Consultant can use their
own standard font name.
6.5.5 Text and other annotations incorporated in the model space shall follow the default
settings mentioned above but the text height shall be set to display or plot at the correct
size on the paper.
6.6.1 Drawing line thickness shall be constant for any given function or each specific purpose.
Line thickness is dependent on the color assigned to each pen and the actual thickness
used for each entity.
6.6.2 Table 6 below indicates the default pen settings and the line thickness for plotting as per
drawing size.

thickness, which can be adjusted to suit with the requirements of the project.
6.7.1 QP standard AutoCAD borders (6.2.1) are already associated with some of the line types
with assigned colors and layers (Fig 1); which shall not be modified. Figure 1 illustrates
a sample of the Color, layer and line type settings. Refer Appendix A for full set up of all
disciplines.

6.7.2 Users of this Standard shall refer to the below Engineering Standard drawings where

6.7.3 The Line Type file (.lin) and shapes files are available to users from QP PTD Help Desk
for installation.
6.8.1 Technical Drawing Indices shall be prepared for all Projects. The MDR does not
constitute as project Technical Drawing index.
6.8.2 Technical Drawing Indexes shall utilize Standard Excel template as referenced in section
(6.2.2) Table 3.
6.8.3 Each Engineering Discipline (Refer Engineering Standard ES-007-0014) shall develop
an index and include all respective discipline data produced in a project. This index shall
include all design data including non-drawing related data, i.e., schedules, data sheets,
equipment’s lists/indices etc.
6.8.4 Technical Drawing numbers listed in the index shall be arranged by lowest sub group
(first) and then sequentially according to sequence number.
6.8.5 A3/A4 Multi sheet sets utilizing Cover Page and Revision Record sheets (See section
6.17) need only be shown once. The number of sheets contained in the set shall be
shown in the appropriate column. All sheets for A1/A0 drawings shall be listed
individually.
6.8.6 MER or Project As-Built Drawings that are used as background drawings when creating
Project drawings (See section 11.0) shall be referenced in the applicable space provided.
Note that this is only applicable if the background drawing used details in the subject
matter of the same installation and location related in the Project Drawing. This is further
detailed in Section (11.0)
Note: All drawings produced in a project shall make reference to the Technical Drawing
Index, where it is listed in the first row in the space provided for Reference
drawings in the title block.
If existing drawings or documents are available as image files only, and need to be
revised, the entire drawing shall be converted (or vectorized) into latest approved version
of AutoCAD, irrespective of project scope.
Overall Key Plans shall be produced as the first sheet in a sheet set of location drawings
to enable location of each individual location drawing. The individual sheets numbers
shall be shown on the overall key plan inside the area the drawing covers.
6.10.1.1 A key plan shall be placed in the top right hand corner of all layouts, surveys, site and
location plans. The area covered by the drawing shall be indicated on the key plan by
hatching the applicable area. See example in Figure 2 below:

6.10.1.2 The Key Plan shall be legible by selecting appropriate scale & clearly showing the
drawing area & its surrounding area references.
6.10.1.3 The Key Plan shall be a simple outline of the overall Plant/Facility as shown in the
overall Key Plan. Use of compressed AutoCAD drawings (i.e. overall Key Plan) and
GIS AutoCAD background shall be avoided when developing the Key Plans in order to
avoid large files size of the drawings.
6.10.1.4 North Arrow (refer 6.11) shall be placed beside the key plan on the top left hand side
to show the overall North of the facility.
6.11.4 North arrows on isometrics shall be inclined 30 degrees upward and to the left. For
Refining Operations - OM (R) isometrics, North Arrow shall be inclined at 30
degrees upward and to the right and placed in the top right of the drawing.
6.12 Stickers
6.13.1 All drawings except Civil Layouts & Survey drawings shall be prepared with dimensions
in millimeters only. It is not required to abbreviate mm after each dimension.
6.13.2 Civil Layouts and Survey drawings shall have their coordinates, elevations in meters.
6.13.3 Where extensions/modifications to existing imperial dimensioned installations are
carried out the imperial units shall be entered in parentheses and the metric equivalents
shall be clearly indicated.
6.13.4 AutoCAD ‘drawing unit’ settings shall follow the above directive with precision set to 0
for millimeters and 0.000 for meters. Angle units shall be set in decimal-degrees with
precision set to 0.00. “Insertion scale” shall be set to “Units to scale inserted content”
as either Millimeters or Meters. No other setting shall be used. See example Figure 3
below:

6.14.1 Drawings prepared “to scale” shall indicate the scale used and placed in the title block
in the space reserved for the same. The following guidance shall be used when
drawings are prepared using more than one scale:
Drawings with more than two scales: Title block shall show AS SHOWN. Scale
Bar shall be shown for the scale of the main body of the detail in question only.
Drawings with two scales only: Title block shall show the Main Scale (normally
the larger scale) i.e. 1:100 UNO. Scale Bar shall be shown for the scale 1:100 only.
The second scale (normally the smaller scale) shall be shown below the detail it
represents.
6.14.2 As the possibility exists for drawings to be reduced when printed a Bar Scale shall
appear on the drawing at the bottom of the drawing space. Where more than one scale
is used on the same drawing, the Bar Scale shall be indicated or referenced to the scale
it applies to. See example in Fig. 4 below:

6.14.3 QP standard Bar Scale (dynamic block) is available from Engineering Standard ES-0-
07-0101 and can be inserted on relevant drawings as applicable.
6.14.4 Drawings not to scale shall be indicated thus ‘NTS’ in the title block.
6.14.5 All Installation and Plant/Building Layouts shall be drawn to scale.
6.14.6 Scales for a particular details shall be shown below the detail i.e. Scale 1:1
6.14.7 Isometrics are not drawn to scale; nevertheless, shall be drawn sufficiently in proportion
to ensure clarity of any dimensioning.
6.14.8 Wherever possible, the same scale shall be used for all drawings forming a working
set.
6.14.9 The recommended scales for use on technical drawings are specified (refer ISO 5455)
in Table 7 below:

NOTE: If for special application, there is a need for a larger enlargement scale or a
smaller scale than those shown in table 7, the required scale shall be derived
from the recommended scales and applied in multiples of 10.
6.14.10 In exceptional cases where for functional reason the recommended scales cannot be
applied, intermediate scales may be chosen.
6.14.11 The scale to be chosen for a drawing will depend upon the complexity of the object to
be depicted and the purpose of representation. In all cases, the selected scale shall be
large enough to permit easy and clear interpretation of the information represented.
Users of this Standard should make use of the whole drawings space (drawing size
selection) to represent the scaled drawing content.

6.14.12 Care should be exercised to choose the recommended scale such that a drawing
should be legible when printed on A3, with “Fit to Paper” option.
NOTE - To include larger area of the installation, appropriate lower scale (e.g. 1:100)
with continuation sheets shall be selected without compromising the legibility
of the drawing, rather than selecting higher scale (e.g. 1:200) to try to fit it into
the chosen sheet size.
6.15 Dimensioning
6.15.1 The use of intelligent AutoCAD dimension tools shall be used when creating
dimensions in drawings. These entities shall not be exploded.
6.15.2 Dimension style named “Standard” shall be used and shall be set to annotative.
Additional dimension style can be created when dimensioning in model space wherein
the “DIMSCALE” can be set to the intended plot scale.
6.15.3 Format for dimension style naming shall have a prefix of “STD” with the inclusion of the
plot scale used. For example, dimension style name of STD100 shall be used for
dimensioning objects in model space to be shown on the plot scale of 1:100. All unused
dimension styles shall be purged from the drawing file prior to final handover to QP.
6.15.4 There shall be no more dimensions than are necessary to complete the work.
6.15.5 Dimensions shall be given once only. Sufficient dimensions shall be given so that the
size and location can be determined such that the reader of the drawings does not need
to scale, assume or calculate the required dimensional values. If it is deemed
necessary to add reference dimensions, then these dimensions shall be indicated by
adding ‘(REF) ‘after the dimension.
6.15.6 Dimension lines shall be drawn in a position where they cannot be confused with the
subject.
6.15.7 Points to which the dimension lines relate shall be clearly indicated. Dimension baseline
references shall always be from the grid line, centerline, equipment edges, etc. to
identify the required length, width, height or spacing.
6.15.8 There should be a visible gap between an extension line and the feature to which it
refers.
6.15.9 Extension leader lines shall be used to show detail description relevant to the object.
6.15.10 All dimension figures shall be written immediately above and along the dimension lines
to which they relate so they may be viewed from the bottom of the drawing or the right
hand edge. They should preferably be towards the center of the dimension line and be
positioned clear of all other lines.

6.16.1 Layout drawings shall have proper match lines or boundary lines to show where to align
a large drawing that spans across two or more sheets. These match lines or boundary
lines shall be shown with its respective Easting & Northing coordinates to indicate its
drawing Limits or battery limits of the facility & the continuation drawing number. For
line type & layer, refer table for General / Multi-Discipline under APPENDIX A Layers &
Line Types.
6.16.2 Other than match lines, specific entity’s whose continuation is to be followed on another
sheet or drawing, the continuation drawing or sheet references shall be provided at the
relevant instance.
6.17.1 Certain ‘data’ A4 and A3 size may consist of a large amount of sheets, of the same title
and consisting typically of:
a) A cover sheet*
b) Revision record sheet(s), giving the applicable revision indicator of each sheet
contained in the multi-sheet set. For revision requirements to Multi Sheet Data refer
to section (10.3)
c) A legend sheet if applicable
d) The detailed sheets as indicated on the revision record sheet.
6.17.2 *The cover sheet shall indicate the total amount of sheets contained in the multi-sheet
set. The following list shows examples (but not limited to) that constitute as multi-sheet
Data.
a) Hook-up drawings
b) Pipe support details
c) Instrument Loop sheets
d) Functional logic diagrams
e) Cause and effects (Process & Fire and Gas)
f) Set route diagrams
6.18.1 Multi-sheets are restricted to ‘Original Format” A4 and A3 size only. All sheets of a multi-
sheet set shall have the same size; mixing of different sizes in one multi-sheet set is
not allowed.
6.18.2 Drawing sizes above A3 may be used as Multi Sheet Sets but don’t fall under the
requirements of section (6.17) above i.e. No cover sheet or revision record sheet is
required. Examples of such drawings are location orientated drawings (Area specific),
UEFD’s, P&ID’s (Unit or System Specific), Single Line Diagrams etc., where in cases
the detail cannot be fully arranged entirely on one sheet the subject will continue on the
next sheet with proper cross references and demarcation points. The amount of sheets
contained in these sets should be kept to a minimum.
The multi-sheets sets for all sizes shall be arranged in separate sets for each equipment
package or system (in case of P&ID’s and the like) to enable additions to the package
or system as applicable.
6.20.1 For Refining Operations - OM (R) Specific Symbols refer to Appendix D. Native
File version of Refining Operations - OM (R) Symbols are available from Refining
Operations - OM (R) Project Focal Point. Users of this Standard engaged in
Refining Operations - OM (R) Projects may use the symbols as indicated in clause
(6.20.6) Table 8, if not available in Appendix D.
6.20.2 Native versions (AutoCAD) of drawing Symbols (see Table 8 below) are issued to
CONTRACTORS/CONSULTANTS along with the Standard for each contract. For QP
in–house Work, these are available on QP Intranet under Engineering Services
Department.
6.20.3 Each Symbol has been developed as a single entity CAD block at 1:1 scale. The
standard symbols shall not to be modified or exploded.
6.20.4 Some drawing symbols will contain an attribute dialogue box and the same shall be
completed by the designers/draughtsmen with the information related to the symbol
specific to its use.
6.20.5 In some instances additional symbols may be required. If so, the proposed symbol(s)
shall be issued to the custodian of this Standard (PTD) for approval by raising the
Proposal/Appraisal for Variance of Engineering Standards from PTD Engineering
Information Request System (EIRS) located in the QP Intranet through the following
path: QPNet>>e-Services>>Oil and Gas>>EIRS. The proposal shall be attached (In
AutoCAD & PDF format) including representation, symbol name and types (i.e. size,
block name(s), shape etc.) and any references to International Standards.
6.20.6 Table 8 below lists the actual Engineering Standard Drawings for all symbols. It is
recommended to use these standard drawings to develop QP Customized Symbols
pallets in AutoCAD.

6.21.1 Relevant sections & details shall be included on drawings to improve the clarity of the
installation with respect to length, width, height & spacing.
6.21.2 Section Mark symbols are provided in Engineering Standard ES-1-07-0101. See Table
8 section (6.20)
6.21.3 The drawings shall clearly indicate in the symbol the section/elevation/detail and the
cross reference to the sheet and or drawing number the details can be found. Where
the details are shown on different drawings (or sheet) then the drawing shall be included
in the reference drawings section of the drawing.
6.22 Hatching
Hatching with appropriate scale shall be used on AutoCAD drawings and not shading or
filling.
7.1.1 The Standard drawing borders are by default set in models space at base point 0, 0 (X,
Y = 0, 0) to standard A size (see section 6.1).
7.1.2 All drawings shall be drawn in model space.
All drawings containing features with geographic locations such as plot plans, equipment
location and layouts, pipeline routing, piping GA’s, alignment sheets, cable routes, road
layouts, etc. shall be drawn in the model space with the AutoCAD drawing files in
geographic coordinates. The ID of the cursor position should match with co-ordinates
mentioned on the drawings. The coordinate system for onshore drawings shall be Qatar
National Datum 95 (QND95) - Qatar National Grid 95 (QNG95), whereas that for offshore
areas shall be Qatar Nahrwan Coordinate system. The parameters of these two systems
are shown in section (8.0). The paper plot shall be prepared in layout with the viewport(s)
set to proper print scale. All viewports shall be in layer VPORT (see Appendix A of this
Standard) with the “display locked” to ensure no accidental relocation of the view or scale
of the drawing.
Multi-sheets drawing files shall be separated to single file for each sheet prior to handover
to QP. Drawings laid next to each other on the same drawing space are not acceptable.
Image and graphic files shall be restricted for use as Company Logos and pictorial
images shown for reference only and that have no relation to technical design elements
of the drawing file. All such images shall be inserted and embedded (not linked) in the
drawing file.
P&ID’s, Flow diagrams, Logic diagrams, Isometric drawings, SLD’s, block diagrams and
the like shall be prepared in full scale (1:1) using grid and snap mode of 10 and 5
respectively where possible. The grid and snap toggle mode shall be set to ON when
creating objects or entities in these type of drawings.
Externally referenced files (Xref) are not permitted as a final deliverable, but may be used
for production of drawings only. Prior to drawing submission, all Xref shall be bind insert
to the host drawing.
7.7.1 QP Plot Style standard pen assignments (.ctb files), shall be used for printing or plotting
the drawing. QP-Mono Default .ctb is illustrated in Figure 6 below.
7.7.2 QP Plot Style standard pen assignments (.ctb files), are issued to CONTRACTORS/
CONSULTANTS along with the Standard for each contract. For QP In-House work these
are available from QP PTD Help Desk Engineering Services Department.
7.7.6 Plot scale can be set to “Fit to paper” when plotting not-to-scale (NTS) and reduced-sizes.
7.7.7 For A4 and A3 paper size: The Printer default settings shall apply.
7.7.8 For A1 and A0 paper size: Plot scale should be set to the actual scale used; wherein
the plotter to be used shall be configured to fit the edges of the drawing border, the
printable area of the paper shall remove extra margins, this can be done in following
steps:
a) Step 1:
i) Go to Plot Screen, select plotter name, select properties
ii) In Plotter configuration editor window select Device and Document settings/ User-
defined Paper Sizes & Calibration/Modify Standard Paper Sizes (Printable Area)
iii) Select the desired paper e.g. ISO A1 (841.00 X 594.00 mm) and select Modify
b) Step 2:
i) In Custom paper Size window under Printable Area set all the values to ‘0’ and
select next then select Finish
ii) Select “Save As” “QPPlotconfig” and save the pc3 file and click Ok to complete the
configuration process
iii) User must select this “QPPlotconfig.pc3” file for future plotting.
All CAD files shall be saved to zoom “Extents”. Prior to final issue to QP all CAD files
shall be purged to remove all unwanted entities.
7.9.1 For QP Standard CAD layers and Line Types refer to Appendix A.
7.9.2 The CAD layers and line types shown in Appendix A have been developed for disciplines
involved in Oil and Gas related drawings/projects i.e. Discipline code 1 to 8 inclusive
(Refer to Engineering Standard ES-0-07-0014).
7.9.3 It is recognized that layering conventions for Infrastructure and Civil projects using
discipline code 9 - Architectural / Landscaping / Building Services (Refer to Engineering
Standard ES-0-07-0014) may originate from add-on application programs and layers are
sometimes automatically applied by the CAD programs designed for specific business
applications. Due to lack of practical standards, layer conventions are not further
specified in this Standard for this discipline. Accordingly, usage of additional layers, line
types, symbols and blocks may be used.
At start of a Project users of this Standard will be assigned a project identifier, which will
form the first part of the project drawing number. The remainder of the number shall be
allocated by the project/contractor/consultant in accordance with ES-0-07-0014 or
7J48N-00-69-00-401 for Refining Operations - OM (R) Projects.* This number shall
remain on the drawings throughout the project life.
*The Project Identifier will replace 7J48N when numbering Refining Operations -
OM (R) Project Documents and Drawing.
Note: Registration numbers of cancelled or superseded drawings or documents shall
not be re-used.
10.1.1 Each drawing shall have an alpha or numeric revision code indicator, indicating the
revision status. Each numbered sheet shall have its own revision status indicator and
shall be changed whenever an approved alteration or modification is made from the
previous issue/revision.
10.1.2 When the available space in the revision block has been used up, (e.g., after revision D)
boxes B, C, D may be deleted to make room for E, F, G etc. Block 0 and A should not be
deleted.
NOTE: The letters I, J and O shall not be used and the Rev 0 (Zero) shall be used only
for the original issue (IFC).
10.2.1 The date and description of the revision or reason for issue shall be given in the identified
space within the Title Block. The first revision shall be listed on the bottom line and each
subsequent issue/revision indicator and issue/revision description will be identified on the
next succeeding line.
10.2.2 When the title of the drawing is altered it shall be mentioned in the revision description.
10.2.3 When a drawing number is changed, it shall maintain the same revision history and the
number change shall be identified in the revision description. This is not applicable when
creating a project drawing from background drawing. See Section (11.0).
10.3.1 The revisions for Multi Sheet Data utilizing Cover Sheet and Revision Record Sheets
(See 6.17) A4 and A3 size, shall be for each sheet. Every time a sheet is revised, the
cover sheet and revision record index sheet shall be revised along with the particular
revised sheet(s). All the revised sheets shall bear the same revision indicator as the cover
and revision records sheet irrespective of the last revision indicator on the individual
sheet.
10.3.2 Where Signatures are applied for approval or checking purposes then only the cover
sheet and revision record sheet shall be signed. This will indicate approval or checked of
the sheets contained (or revised) within the multi sheet set.
10.3.3 Note that only revised sheets within the multi sheet set shall be issued and shall be
accompanied with its Cover sheet and revision record sheet.
10.4.2 When creating drawings it will be necessary to carry out certain review issues in
accordance with the Contract requirements.
10.4.3 Each review will be monitored on the drawing by using a numerical revision code in
the revision box. Only when a drawing is approved for Construction (AFC) will it receive
an alphabetical revision code ‘A’. At this time all numerical revisions except Rev. 0
shall be deleted.
10.4.4 All projects involved in design and upgrade of existing plants (brownfield) shall use
revision code ‘Z’ regardless of previous revision to indicate project As-Built. Previous
revisions shall remain on the drawings at handover. (See 10.4.6 and Figure 7 below.)
10.4.5 In the unlikely event an As-built drawing Rev Z requires updating/revising then the
following revision indicators shall be used:
a) ZA - First change after Rev Z
b) ZB – Second change after Rev Z then ZC, ZD etc.
10.4.6 It shall be noted that three revisions including their description shall be constant;
namely:

10.4.7 The above constant revisions 0 (Zero) & A also apply for Grass Root Projects. However
the final As-Built revision shall be the next available revision letter. See Sample in
Figure 8 Below:

10.4.8 All technical changes after ‘Approved for Detailed Design’ require QP approval.
Approved changes shall be recorded using the next revision number indicator. The
Project Engineer must maintain a log of all changes.
10.4.9 All technical changes after ‘Approved for Construction’ shall be approved by Contractor
where required and the appropriate QP Discipline Engineer. Approved changes shall
be recorded using the next revision letter indicator. i.e. subsequent revisions on AFC
drawings will use Rev B, C, etc. (See Figure 8). The Project Engineer must maintain a
log of all changes.
10.4.10 Sequence of Revisions / Issues for Refining Operations - OM (R) Projects
10.5.1 Every revision to the drawing shall be highlighted by 'clouding' the affected area(s). A
triangle containing the revision indicator shall be placed outside the revision cloud with
one corner of the triangle touching the cloud. See example in Fig 9.

10.5.2 To differentiate the Rev cloud from the cloud that shows the extent of the project, the
Rev cloud will use layer Rev 1 and cyan color. Scope cloud to be retained in As-built
drawings and all the Rev. clouds to be deleted prior to handover.
10.5.3 When a drawing is revised only the new revision cloud and associated revision triangle
(and Rev) should be seen. i.e. previous Rev Clouds and rev triangle shall be deleted from
the drawing.
10.5.4 All Rev. clouds shall be removed from the drawing when approved at, ADD, AFT, AFC
and As-built.
10.6.1 The number of copies required, and the procedures for commenting, review and/or
approval, shall be in accordance with requirements of the contract and project
specification, which will be stated by QP.
10.6.2 Before any Technical Drawings are issued for review they must be checked and signed
by qualified personnel at the originating design source.
10.6.3 Technical Drawings issued for review shall be issued in logical batches sufficient in scope
and details to provide the recipient(s) with an overview, including interface, cross
referenced drawings of the package/topic or unit under review.
10.6.4 If Technical Drawings are issued with ‘holds’, the hold must be clearly identified by
surrounding the relevant area(s) with an inverted cloud. The cloud must refer to a note
on the document or drawing explaining the exact reason for the hold.
10.6.5 ‘Issued for Information’ shall be shown on the Technical Drawings issued for this
purpose.
10.6.6 The CAD Signatures shall only be added to the drawings when proof of the wet signed
drawing exists.
10.6.7 For drawings issued for Engineering Standards compliance checks refer to section (13.0)
11.1 General
11.1.1 There are two distinct methods of using background drawings for production of project
work. These are defined as below:
i) Reference shall be made to the original background drawing where the
BACKGROUND DRAWING either “Master Engineering Record or Project As-Built
Record” (See 11.3) reflects the same site/area or detail of the Project Scope and
is used to include scope requirements as an addition/deletion of the same drawing
type under project scope. (See 11.3)
ii) Reference to background drawing shall not apply where the BACKGROUND
DRAWING is only used as a template to aid the development of the Project
Drawing to include project scope requirements. As an example: The background
information is a typical detail or may include location background information to
be used in development of other discipline specific details on top of the
background related to the project scope.
11.1.2 When selecting drawings of background information from other disciplines (as per item
ii) above) elements which do not have any valued addition to that specific discipline
drawing shall be removed to improve legibility of the drawing. e.g. Miscellaneous
bracings & members from structural drawings should be deleted when used to develop
other discipline drawings.
11.1.3 FEED drawings shall not be considered as background drawings for detailed design or
at EPIC stage. These are merely a continuation, update of the said drawing(s) which
may include use of different numbering system i.e. use of different project number. As
such the background drawing referenced on the FEED drawing shall be maintained on
the Detailed Design, EPIC Drawing(s). (See 11.3)
11.1.4 Master Engineering Records if available, shall be used for background information when
producing a project drawing. If the Master Engineering Record is not available, the latest
Project As-built drawing shall be used, if available.
11.1.5 If the above drawings are not available then users of this Standard shall create a new
drawing as per section (11.4).
11.1.6 It shall be noted that due to potential ongoing plant improvements, a Master Engineering
Record or Project As-built drawing does not necessarily accurately reflect the true site
status. Therefore, all drawings must be site verified prior to commencement of design.
11.2 Inserting Background Drawing Content (if used) into QP Standard Drawing
Border
When starting a project drawing with use of background drawing, users of this Standard
shall follow the following steps:
a) Open standard drawing border.
b) Scale the drawing border to that of the same scale of the background drawing.
c) Move the entire drawing detail of the background drawing into the new drawing
border. Ensure standard scale is used.
d) Select entire drawing content and change layer to “BACKGRD” (See Appendix A)
then create as a block named “BACKGRD”.
e) Use line type “continuous” and color “8-Grey”.
f) Update the Title Attribute dialog box to include Project specific title (See 6.3),
drawing number etc. see (Section 9.1)
g) Set drawing content to actual coordinates system (if GIS type)
h) Update drawing as per SCOPE with new entities of the project drawing (project
scope) prepared in accordance with QP standard layers. See Appendix A
Note: All original Background information including notes shall be maintained on the
Project Drawing unless it misleads to the distinctness of the new project scope.
When a background drawing is used (see 11.0) to create a project drawing, reference
must be made to background drawing and revision status from which it was made. This
information shall also be shown on the applicable Drawing Index. See example in Figure
10 below.
Newly developed drawings (No background drawing used) shall be indicated as such by
inserting a block in the drawing as in below example Figure 11.

11.5.1 When a background drawing is used (see 11.0), for development of a project drawing,
the entire area of the project scope shall be clouded. This is to indicate, at a glance, the
extent of the work to be addressed and also indicates the updates to be addressed in
comparison with the background drawing when updating MER’s. Any revision indicators
shall be within this clouded area. This cloud shall remain on the drawing throughout its
project life.
11.5.2 Any subsequent revision indicators shall be shown within this clouded area.
11.5.3 A block shall be added to the drawing (See Fig. 10) to direct users to use the drawing
within the clouded areas only.
11.5.4 To differentiate the project scope cloud from a Rev cloud, this cloud will use layer
PROEXT and color yellow pen # 51. Refer Appendix A for details.
12.1.1 All project drawings shall be revised to reflect the 'As- Built' status after commissioning
using Revision indicator letter Z for Brown Field Projects and next available Revision
letter for Grass Root Projects, refer to (10.4). For Refining Operations - OM (R)
Projects this would be the next available sequence number as detailed in Section
(10.4.10)
12.1.2 As-Built drawings shall reflect final vendor information as well as all revisions of Red
Line Mark-up (RLM).
12.1.3 All temporary, Vendor or construction notes and references, revision clouds and Rev
triangles shall be removed before final As-Built is issued. Scope clouds shall remain in
place.
12.1.4 It shall be noted that all project Technical Drawings shall be certified ‘As-built’ regardless
of changes or not during the construction and commissioning stage and this status shall
be reflected in the applicable document and drawing registers. The drawings shall be
signed accepted as 'As-Built' by the following:

Note: Due to possibility of drawings re-issued for construction there may be more than
one ‘As-built” mark up for the same drawing. In this case all mark-ups shall be
considered and actioned as above.
12.1.7 Unless otherwise specified by the project scope and contract requirements QP is
responsible for transferring the As-Built project information onto the Master Engineering
Record, should one exist. The next available revision indicator on the Master
Engineering Record shall be used to identify this work.
12.2.1 Demolition Drawings shall be identified uniquely as per numbering system as defined in
ES0-07-0014 Engineering Data Coding System or 7J48N-00-69-00-401 for Refining
Operations - OM (R) Projects. i.e. drawing numbers are prefixed with DEM. Items,
equipment, structures, areas etc. to be demolished are identified by clouding the areas
to be demolished with cross hatch. These drawings shall be updated at As-built Stage to
indicate all actual items that have been demolished.
12.2.2 Demolition Drawings that show items, equipment, structures, areas etc. that still exist at
site shall cross refer to the actual As-built drawing number where the As-built details are
shown. i.e. these drawings will not show demolished items.
Users of this Standard shall issue MDR (Technical Drawings index in case of PCR and
MWR) to QP to verify compliance with ES-0-07-014 or 7J48N-00-69-00-401 for
Refining Operations - OM (R) Projects as applicable, with respect to Technical
Drawing numbering and drawing titles.
13.2.1 During the initial development phase of the works users of this Standard shall submit
Preliminary Native Files from each discipline to verify their compliance with this
Standard and, relevant tagging Standard and ES-0-07-0014 or 7J48N-00-69-00-401
for Refining Operations - OM (R) Projects as applicable, with respect to Technical
Drawing numbering.
13.2.2 This shall be a one-time issue and cover at least five (5) drawings of different types from
each discipline involved in the Projects. The review will indicate where users of this
Standard are not complying and enable the corrections to be addressed across all
deliverables at early stage of the Project. Check list for this review is illustrated in
Appendix B of this Standard.
On approval of FEED deliverables “Approved for Detailed Design” (ADD), users of this
Standard shall issue the complete FEED package to QP with all relevant Document and
Drawing Discipline Indices. QP will verify their compliance to this Standard, relevant
tagging Standard, ES-0-07-0014 or 7J48N-00-69-00-401 for Refining Operations -
OM (R) Projects as applicable, with respect to document & drawing numbering. Final
approval of the submission shall be obtained prior project completion. Check list for this
review is illustrated in Appendix B of this Standard.
Users of this Standard shall issue AFC packages, discipline-wise, to QP. This submittal
shall include the relevant Document and Drawing Discipline Indices. QP will verify their
compliance to this Standard, relevant tagging Standard and ES-0-07-0014 or 7J48N-
00-69-00-401 for Refining Operations - OM (R) Projects as applicable, with respect
to document & drawing numbering. Check list for this review is illustrated in Appendix
B of this Standard.
13.5.1 Users of this Standard shall issue complete As-Built package native files. This submittal
shall include the relevant Document and Drawing Discipline Indices, QP will verify their
compliance to this Standard, relevant tagging Standard and ES-0-07-0014 or 7J48N-
00-69-00-401 for Refining Operations - OM (R) Projects as applicable, with respect
to document & drawing numbering. Check list for this review is illustrated in Appendix
B of this Standard.
13.5.2 The appropriate QP Project Engineer or QP Departments shall be notified of any
discrepancies in the deliverables and shall be responsible for obtaining the revised/
corrected or missing data.
a) On completion of the review as defined in section (13.5) users can initiate the final
handover of Native files to QP in accordance with this section. For handover of
Project Dossiers refer to Engineering Standard ES-0-06-0021 or 2500-00-69-00-101
for Refining Operations - OM (R) Projects.
b) Zipped files for final handover are not allowed. All file names shall be as defined in
Engineering Standard ES-0-07-0014.
c) PTD or OM (R) for Refining Operations shall inform the Project Engineer or QP
Department of final acceptance of all Project Handover deliverables. It shall be
noted that the project/contract IS NOT complete until final acceptance as
above has been notified. Only at this stage Project Completion Certificate can be
issued.
Note: The complete directory structures along with all applicable contents shall be
contained in only one of the Media types as defined in section (14.3) on final
handover to QP. i.e. the complete deliverable shall not include multiple
CD/DVD’s or External Hard Drives. This means the capacity of the media shall
be large enough to include the complete deliverables.
14.4.1 The directory structure shall be in folders specific to each discipline and contain all related
files for that discipline, as minimum, refer to ES-0-07-0014 . These may be arranged by
Document/Drawing location code as defined in ES-0-07-0014 . Where deliverables are
for Buildings, Architectural and Building Services (discipline code 9), then the folder
shall be further broken down into the discipline modifier.
14.4.2 For folder structure for electronic media for Refining Operations - OM (R) Projects
refer 2500-00-69-00-102.
Labels for packaging CDs, DVDs and Hard Drives (for transit) shall bear the words
‘OPTICAL RECORDING MATERIAL’ - “HANDLE WITH CARE” The labels shall indicate
the applicable Contract Number/Project Number/ and Project Title.

QP STANDARD FOR DEVELOPMENT OF TECHNICAL DRAWINGS
a) The use of relevant set of layers of other discipline is encouraged. This will eliminate the
need to create additional layer(s) having the same layer description and purpose. For
example; if Mechanical Discipline requires showing a building outline, the Civil/ Structural
Discipline Layer should be used. Hence, there would be no need to list this layer under
Process Mechanical.
b) All X-Ref layout from other discipline used as background information can be changed to
Layer X-REF when creating drawings for the above discipline to emphasize the above
layers used.
c) All X-Ref from existing layout supplied by QP used as background information shall be
changed to Layer BACKGRD.
d) Refer Section (6.7) of this Standard for QP customised line-types. The proposed Layer
Names and Line Types as in Appendix-A shall be used. In case of a layer name, Line Type
not available for new entity type then Contractor to request QP for new layer name/s.
e) It is encouraged to use the short Layer Name as in this Appendix along with its short
description so that the layer names are more specific of its entity/entities.
