During my first-year training, a customer wanted us to fit its Komatsu wheeled-loader with a camera.
I fetched a camera kit to the store. The kit was composed of a screen, a camera, a power supply, a
connection cables, two supports for screen and camera and 1 remote control.

The customer wanted this option because he had to face an accident in one of these quarries.

I first drilled the rear cover of the machine to fix the camera support. After that I install the camera
and pulled the connection cables.
The rest to be done is the installation in the cab of the screen support.
Here there is a strict procedure of the manufacturer, namely the holes and the diameters of drilling
on the dashboard.
The power cables are simple to install because they are taken on the 12v power supply.

After installing the screen, I had to go to the system configuration. I set the language, the units of
length, the color.
This camera is always powered but can be controlled with the remote control. It can be turned off,
zoomed, changed brightness and contrast depending on the weather.

Volvo Concept Wheel Loader ZEUX is a revolutionary autonomous concept wheel loader. Jointly
developed by Volvo Construction Equipment and Lego® Technic.

THE EYE
The Eye illustrates a new and innovating feature: it will show exactly where the vehicle’s “attention”
is directed, which means it can make “eye contact” with humans and acknowledge their presence.
This is something that does not come natural with autonomous vehicles, because a human normally
can’t see all the sensors that allow an autonomous vehicle to navigate around both stationary and
moving objects. The Eye solves this problem, making the interaction between humans and machines
as safe and intuitive as possible.

THE DRONE
The drone hovers above the ZEUX wheel loader, making it even more aware of its surroundings,
making it possible for the ZEUX to become aware of things that are out of its immediate line of sight
and plan the work.

Gold mines are among the most challenging working environments in the world. They are places
where huge mining vehicles brave harsh conditions every day. This is why PJSC Polyus equips all of its
vehicles in the vast Russian Olimpiada mine with cameras, radar and monitors.
It is the heart of winter in the middle of nowhere, 310 miles (500 kilometers) north of the city of
Krasnoyarsk in Siberia. It is 49 degrees Fahrenheit below zero (-45°C) and snow is falling, but this
won't hold back the hundreds of employees of Russia's largest gold mine. Giant mining vehicles
constantly wind their way up the miles of road around the edge of the Olimpiada.

Challenges in One of the World's Largest Gold Mines

Visibility is minimal and is only getting worse due to the diesel fumes that fill the air. However, from
the cab of his dump truck, Aleksandr can see exactly where he is driving — all thanks to
Orlaco RadarEye. RadarEye combines camera vision with radar detection of stationary and moving
objects to a distance of over 65 feet (20 meters).

Acoustic Warning Signals and Blind Spot Vision

If Aleksandr gets too close to the verge and the steep edge of the mine road, the system gives out an
acoustic warning signal. If he is reversing and someone gets in the path of his dump truck, he will see
that on his monitor. It shows a transparent detection zone with overlays of blind spots around the
vehicle.

Drivers Insisted on Installing Cameras and Radars after Pilot

"The worst time of the year is around February and March. There's so much snow and wind that you
can barely see anything in the mine. We tried just about everything to resolve the vision problems,
but nothing worked — until we tried a pilot with RadarEye. The drivers insisted on having all their
vehicles equipped with cameras and radars," a mine spokesperson explains.

Made to Perform in All Conditions

RadarEye is made for unrelenting conditions such as these. Whether it is icy cold, with snowstorms
buffeting Olimpiada, or huge dust clouds and extreme heat are pushing operators to their limit,
RadarEye never misses a thing. The system is waterproof (IP69), vibration and shock resistant (15 G +
26 G), and, thanks to infrared technology, the camera also provides optimum night vision.

Reduction in Incidents, More Working Comfort for Drivers

Two years later, they are singing the praises of RadarEye in Russia. Since installing the systems, safety
in the mine has increased. There have been fewer impacts, collisions and cases of damage, and
loaders have not been involved in any incidents at all. This has helped reduce downtime for vehicles
and therefore increase efficiency. Drivers say that they no longer have to twist to look behind them
while reversing, resulting in fewer physical complaints. There has also been a drop in stress at work
thanks to improved vision.
