STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
Technology has over the years, proven to form an intrinsic part of the business world. With the
ever-evolving world and the augmentation of technology in business operations, there is an
exponential upsurge in the demand for professionals who have good knowledge of
Management Information Systems (MIS). Businesses across industries rely on data and the
insights gained from information systems to improve their daily operations and stay
competitive. The strategic Implementation of the appropriate management system could
enhance the sphere and economics of any corporate entity although an adverse result could be
obtained from an inadequate application of the systems.

In order to establish my career in this emerging MIS industry and get in-depth knowledge of it, I
decided to undertake a Master’s degree in Management Information Systems at Lamar
University, Texas. Coming from a background of a moderate-sized family business based in a
highly competitive city like Lagos state, Nigeria, I have participated extensively in the day to day
operations and execution of business decisions which were merely based on limited available
data. I soon realized the importance and competitive advantages offered when accurate
business information are properly collected, analyzed and incorporated as part of the decision-
making process. The rapid advancement in technology and its potential to revolutionize all
sectors of the economy, enthused my aspiration to pursue a career within this domain.

Pursuing a Master in Management Information Systems will help me learn the practices
associated with information technology required to smoothly run a business. This program will
help me learn the skills required to manage, store, analyze and transmit information. In
addition, studying MIS will help me develop the technical skills required to build software
applications, and manage different business software.

My bachelor’s degree in History and Internal Relations obtained from Niger Delta University,
Bayelsa State, Nigeria, in 2019 was a stepping stone for me getting into the domain of proper
information collection and analysis. I got to appreciate the importance of adequate
management of both past and present information as this forms the bedrock of future
aspirations. Due to my undying interest in business related career, after my bachelor’s degree, I
enrolled into a short business analysis program, after which I was certified as a Master Business
Analyst (MBA). During the course of the program we were exposed to learning areas such as
System Analysis, Database Management, Enterprise architecture, Information Security and
Compliance, Internet-based Applications, Business Process Design, Business Intelligence
Applications, Setting up Business Performance measures, etc. These courses have aided me the
ability to utilize my knowledge to effectively manage businesses.

Subsequently, I have over the years worked in a wide range of roles within the realm of
business both for private and corporate organizations. Within this time frame, I was privileged
to oversee and manage the activities of my direct and extended family business both in Lagos
and across the country in Nigeria. The challenges and shortcoming I experienced during these
periods convinced me that I could accomplish more by the integration of tech. It inspired me to
pursue the perception of increasing my technical knowledge through a Master's program,

bearing in mind that the goal of any academic exertion is to advance knowledge and proficiency
in any given field.

I am particularly applying to the Lamar University because of its proven track record for
providing quality and world-class education coupled with its extensive contribution to research
and innovations Also, the practical teaching techniques and updated study modules resulting
from its strong affiliation with top organizations, gives a very strong learning experience. I
strongly believe that in order to excel in the dynamic and challenging business world of today, I
have to be equipped with not only the business knowledge and experience, but also possess
the soft skills required to make intelligent business decisions. I am convinced that this Master's
degree program will enhance my knowledge, skill set, and social network that will contribute to
my personal development and the development of my home country, Nigeria.

After completion of my course, I wish to return to my home country, to be a business developer

or business analyst and significantly enhance my career by introducing modern Information
Management tools to my home country and across the globe. I also hope to acquire the skills to
manage complex business models and related programs thereby becoming fully qualified in
business Analysis. I believe this course offers me the multidisciplinary competencies required to
execute my goals hence putting me in a favorable position within the business domain. I also
recognize that if I can adeptly acquire broader learning in this program, it will offer me the
opportunity to develop in not only Management information Systems but also in other related
fields. I am also deeply interested in sustainable development and green energy. Fortunately,
the Lamar University offers many of such specialized program that can help me gain knowledge
with the perfect combination of business knowledge and required skills.

Finally, it is my fervent wish that the business industry, experiences a peak thrust in its
technological advancement and infrastructures to meet the growing environmental
sustainability requirements especially in my home country, Nigeria. Hence, with the knowledge,
interpersonal and professional skills anticipated to be acquired from this Master’s program, I
wish to explore the major innovative tools and techniques available within the sphere of
Management Information Systems, to instill positive impact in the economy both locally and
globally. I also wish to further transfer the knowledge acquired so as to ensure a sustainable
growth in the business domain.

I am dedicated to working hard in order to thrive, develop and also contribute and give back to
my university community as well. I hope that my request for this study at the Lamar University
will be given an acquiescent consideration and hopefully, I will be offered the privilege to
pursue a degree at your prestigious University. I look forward to contributing to the academic
