Belgium 13/11/2017 Motivation Letter for EMSHIP Master Program/Scholarship Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing with great enthusiasm to apply for the Erasmus Master in Advanced Ship Design (EMSHIP) coordinated by The University of Liège (ULiège) in which I am particularly interested. This joint degree from some of the most advanced and prestigious European universities present the best of opportunities to study, enrich my knowledge and secure my career objectives. During my undergraduate program at Niger Delta University, where I graduated with First Class Honours in Marine Engineering, I was able to acquire strong academic knowledge in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture and Marine Offshore Technology. I was also engaged in the construction of a tugboat, navy boat and barge during industrial attachment. I perceived the complexity and the interesting nature of the field. Furthermore, I became fascinated at the fundamental significance of the marine industry in this age of industrialisation, and the need to acquire knowledge in the international marine industry. My home country Nigeria is presently facing a downturn in the marine sector, which was the resultant effect of inadequate technical know-how, inadequacy of facilities, and the unavailability of experienced teaching staffs in the maritime schools. My passion for the marine industry stems from the understanding that the marine industry can greatly impact positively to the development of a nation and also on the lives of her citizens. Therefore, searching for a program that covers a variety of areas in the international marine industry and technology, and also has the ability to reposition maritime education and training in Nigeria became my ultimate quest. With EMSHIP, I hope to develop problem solving skills, professional knowledge and transferable skills to pursue my career in naval architecture. I also hope to acquire great knowledge in digital design - both computer aided design and computer aided engineering. The afforded opportunity to think creatively and critically, design ships and offshore structures with cutting edge technology, the mobility scheme to study related courses in other respected and advanced universities with first class facilities, and the master thesis and internship at a partner university serves as a motivation for applying for this program. The idea of studying in Belgium at postgraduate level fills me with enthusiasm because of the prospect of a more dynamic educational system, international experience and networking. Finally, with the personal and professional skills developed, it is my great ambition to help reposition the International marine industry, especially in Nigeria by adequate and proper transfer of knowledge and technology which has plagued the Nigerian marine industry over the years. Thank you very much for considering my application.
