STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

While growing up, I love attending British Council Children’s Forum held every last Saturday of
the month. My first day in the British Council I was asked what I would love to be in future, I
boldly answered ‘Teacher’! With a surprised face, the interviewer asked me why I wanted to be
a teacher I answered,‘ If there is no teacher, no one can learn’ their startled faces yet loud
applause left me with a sense of self and importance. After high school, the urge to make an
impact in children and also to nurture my passion moved me to start an extra curricula classes
for the children living in my street. As my love for teaching continues to grow, I enrolled as a
teacher in a lesson Centre, organizing classes for children preparing to write the West Africa
Examination Council (WAEC).
In April 2016, I concluded my bachelor of science in Health Education. My journey of being a
teacher kicked off when I volunteered in Young Readers Library as a teacher, I taught 2 to 3
years age group that spurns up my love for Early Childhood Education. The curiosity to know
more about the uniqueness of children, the individual differences in every child moved me to
take up a teaching job as a KS1 teacher which I worked for a year and decided to settle for early
years as a teacher.

My experience as an Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) lead teacher at Teenee Todds Day
Nursery has given me an extensive experience with children and having recently completed
courses related to childhood development like “infant and toddler care” from Kiddies Lounge
Childcare Academy “child protection for international schools” from EduCare part of tes and
Solihull Approach (understanding your child) from Riley Hunte’s Psychology Consultancy RHPC.
These courses gave me an insight to a better understanding of children with emotional and
behavior difficulties, the interaction between a baby and an adult where both are involved in
the initiation, regulation and termination of interaction. We can agree that children represent
future and regardless of what circumstances a child is born into each of them carry uninhibited
potential. And the desire to continue to understand the learning and development of young
children, the best practice on how to teach the curriculum and maintain a standard classroom
management fueled my decision to get a master’s degree in early childhood education as well
as developing the skills necessary for a full-time research program in Teesside University
Teesside University offers a world class quality education that is recognized with well-trained
educators that bring diverse approach to the classroom therefore, studying in Teesside
University will give me a great opportunity to learn more about my teaching career. I also
believe that it will expose me to diverse culture and international top class education which I
can bring to a classroom for better curriculum and teaching.
Furthermore, I understand the intricacies of research work particularly in this chosen field. I can
maintain focus on my individual task, with full knowledge of how they contribute immensely to
the overall research purposes and goals.
Thanks for your consideration.
