SIWALIMA MUSEUM
Siwalima Museum is located in the Taman Makmur area, Nusaniwe District,
Ambon City, Maluku Province. The museum was founded on November 8, 1973, but
was inaugurated on March 26, 1977. Siwalima Museum is a tourist attraction that
is a place of relics of historical objects located on a hill overlooking Ambon Bay
with its exoticism that makes the eyes fascinated.

The word Siwalima is a formation of 2 words. according to the story, both words are taken from
the history of the kingdoms that once existed in Maluku. the word Siwa which means nine is taken
from the word Ulisiwa which is a collection of 9 kingdoms in the southern Maluku region and the word
Lima is taken from the word Patalima which is a collection of 5 kingdoms in the northern Maluku
region. In front of the museum entrance there is an inscription "Usu Mae Upu" which means "Let's
Please Mauk". initially this museum only kept a collection of Maluku culture and customs, but it
continued to grow over time. this made the siwalima Museum divided into 3 exhibition halls.

The first exhibition room is called the Culture or ethnography museum. in this place everything related to Maluku culture
is stored, such as original Maluku buildings, agricultural tools, weapons, traditional ceremonial equipment, old money, jars
during the colonial period, even worship statues in the animist era. Second exhibition room is called the fashion museum. in this
room there are traditional bridal clothes from Maluku along with several items used during traditional marriages or
traditions of the Moluccas. In addition to traditional clothes from Maluku, in this exhibition room there are also 27
traditional bridal clothes in the archipelago. The third exhibition room is called the marine exhibition room. In this place, the
marine history of the people of Maluku is stored, marine objects and animals, such as 3 whale skeletons, preserved crocodiles,
sharks, turtles, and several other types of marine animals. All of these objects are well maintained in the Siwalima Museum.
In this museum there is also a tour guide who can provide a detailed explanation of the collections in the siwalima museum.
the location of this museum is only 5 km from the city center of ambon by using private vehicles or public transportation to
the Taman Makmur.
