Youth Badminton Instructor

Job Title: Youth Badminton Instructors (Hiring 1 Senior Instructor)


Faculty: Faculty of Kinesiology, Intramurals & Recreational Sports
Department: Active Living
Wage: $18-$20/hour
Duration of Employment: January 13- ongoing

NATURE OF POSITION
Are you passionate about racquet sports? Do you have experience playing a racquet sport and/or
teaching a sport to children between the ages of 6-17? Intramurals & Recreational Sports is currently
seeking one (1) Senior Instructor with previous experience in Badminton for the upcoming winter
semester youth badminton program, January - April. This position provides the opportunity to plan and
execute a variety of badminton-based skills and games over an eight-week period. Intramurals &
Recreational Sports facilitates a fun and exciting work environment while teaching and inspiring kids.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


• Follow lesson plans that teaches children the fundamentals of badminton.
• Work with other instructors to collaborate and plan lessons together.
• Plan and implement fun hands-on activities for kids.
• Provide quality care, fun, and supervise children participating in activities.
• Always ensure the enjoyment and safety of kids.
• Ensure that children are listening and respecting themselves and others, as well as the equipment.
• Ensure facilities are clean and tidy at the end of each day.
• Abide by University of Calgary policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Senior Instructor – Experience in playing a racquet sport (badminton) at a provincial or national level. If do
not have the competitive experience but have years of teaching a sport to youth programs (ages 5-17),
you may apply for the Senior Instructor position
• Junior Instructor – Experience in playing a racquet sport at the recreational level or have previous work
experience teaching/assisting a sport to youth programs (ages 5-17)
• Previous experience working with children is an asset for the positions
• Completion of Grade 12 education required
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work as part of a cohesive team, as well as independently
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to be flexible and prioritize
