Secondary school students express a desire to limit the wide range of subjects provided in

schools. Although it might seem like a superior opportunity it also holds

disadvantages that will be discussed in this essay.
One advantage of giving the students the right to choose the subjects is that it allows them
to focus precisely on their academic goals. Those who are confident about their
future career paths rejecting unessential subjects provides more time, which is often
lacked by ambitious young people. This additional time can be spent on subjects that
are student’s centre of attention and interest. Another positive side of this idea is the
fact that not only is it boosting young people’s confidence, but also responsibility.
Showing respect and trust in essential choices, which might have an enormous
impact on their life, is a way of slowly heading towards adulthood.
Obviously, there are a number of downsides, too. It goes without saying that basic
knowledge of plentiful areas is a helpful factor of understanding vastness of current
world. Therefore, young people people might feel lost in everyday life if they choose
to study limited subjects. On top of that for those unmotivated individuals it is a
chance to innocently escape from obligatory education.
All in all, there is no simple solution to the issue, because school system should take account
of students. Part of students, which might have more ambition can gain plentiful
advantage, but for immature and indolent youth this possibility might doom them to
failure.
