EXERCISE ON ANALYSIS
FORM FUNCTION
What’s the worst thing about language learning? I bet “vocabulary” was the thought that came to your 1.
mind1. Vocabulary lists and flashcards is the student’s nightmare2. The main reason we all hate this 2.
annoying (but very important) part of language learning 3 is probably because we haven’t found the 3.
right study method for our individual learning style4. While lists or flashcards might be right for some 4.
5.
people, they probably5 are not ideal for the majority6.
6.
You may or may not believe in the existence of different learning styles. My teaching and learning
7.
experience has shown7 me that leaning into your learning style brings you nothing but benefits 8:
8.
Language learning becomes more fun and more efficient at the same time. So how about we have a look
9.
at the different types of learning styles, and how each style can learn vocabulary in a more efficient way? 10.
Before starting9, I should point out that there are many different learning style models and 11.
approaches10. For our purposes11 today, we will focus at the VARK model (Visual, Aural, Reading & 12.
Writing, Kinesthetic).12 13.
14.
The Visual Learner 15.
If you are more of a visual learner, you like to actually see your vocabulary. So, do you think in pictures 16.
when hearing words13? Do you like your words to be presented in images, charts, videos or maps 14? 17.
Well, then you definitely have an inclination toward this learning style15. How about you try 18.
Babbel’s Flashcards to revise your learned vocabulary? The images on them16 can help you17 to 19.
remember the words18. Check out Babbel’s YouTube channel too. Here19, you get the chance to learn 20.
new words in a fun and visual way20, just how you like it. 21.

23.
The Reading & Writing Learner
24.
I envy you guys! Your notes, written out in such a beautiful and structured manner 21, are something I
25.
might never be able to achieve 22. You like and need23 summaries, and you study24, creating a little
26.
written story around your newly learned vocabulary 25. When using your Babbel app to learn
27.
vocabulary26, check out the Writing section: Here, you can read the translations27 and write out the new
28.
words and phrases. Oh, and I also encourage you to read some articles in your target language from
our magazine28!
