Scope
This operator manual describes the daily operation and maintenance of the
Drystar Kiosk by the hospital staff.

Intended Use
The Agfa Drystar kiosk is a self-service terminal to be used in hospitals for
patients of radiology departments to collect their images (film) and radiology-
reports (paper). The user identifies himself to the Agfa Drystar Kiosk by
means of a barcode, which he obtained on leaving the radiology department.
The Drystar Kiosk connects to a print server which collects patient radiology
film and paper from the hospital PACS and RIS system
Intended User
Intended users of Agfa Drystar kiosk are:
• patients for requesting print jobs
• hospital staff or third party service provider for daily operation and
maintenance, further referred to as user or operator.
Configuration
One or more Drystar Kiosks are connected to a central print server database. A
nurse workstation can be available for monitoring the status of the Drystar
Kiosk devices and for performing some tasks on the print server database.
For daily maintenance following accessories are required:
• barcode for the operator to enter the operator screen
• barcode to shutdown the system
• triangular key to open the doors to access the film printer and paper
printer

Equipment Classification
Per GB9706.1-2007, this device is classified as following:
Type B Equip- Not applicable: The patient does not get in contact with

Water Ingress This device does not have protection against ingress of
water.
Flammable Anes- This device is not suitable for use in the presence of a
thetics flammable anesthetic mixture with air, or in presence of
a flammable anesthetic mixture with oxygen or nitrous
oxide.
Connectivity
The Drystar Kiosk is connected via ethernet to a print server database to fetch
print jobs and user data and to store print job status information and camera
images.

Provides a connection between the equip-
ment and the potential bus bar of the electri-

It is recommended to use the equipotential
connection as additional safety measure.

Installation
Installation and configuration is performed by an Agfa trained and authorized
service engineer. Contact your local support organization for more
information.
The unit shall be used in a professional healthcare environment.
The unit shall not be installed in wet environments like emergency operation
rooms and operating theatre. The environment should be dust free and clean.

Messages
The status of the system is indicated on the touchscreen display by means of
color.
Green
The system is operational
Yellow
The system is operational, but the printer
queue has print jobs which may need the op-
erator to wait for a while or the operator
could start an intervention to clear the print-
er jobs.
Orange
The system is operational, but the operator
should start an intervention, e.g. filling the
film or paper trays.
Red
The system is not operational. Error messag-
es are displayed that explain the problem.
Safety Directions
WARNING:
Improper changes, additions, maintenance or repair of the
equipment or the software can lead to personal injury, electrical
shock and damage to the equipment. Safety is only guaranteed
when changes, additions, maintenance or repairs are carried out
by an Agfa certified field service engineer. A non certified
engineer performing a modification or service intervention on a
medical device, acts on his own responsibility and makes the
warranty void.
WARNING:
Do not connect the equipment with anything other than
specified. Doing so may result in fire or electric shock.
WARNING:
Do not connect additional extensions cords or multiple power
socket outlets to the system.
WARNING:
Safety is only guaranteed when an Agfa certified field service
engineer has installed the product.
CAUTION:
Strictly observe all warnings, cautions, notes and safety
markings within this document and on the product.
CAUTION:
Position the device so that it is possible to disconnect the mains
plug, if required.

After startup the display shows the available paper and film in the printer
trays. The display shows the animation to instruct the patient to scan a
barcode.

Follow the procedure below to ensure proper start-up of the printer and to
check that everything is working correctly.
1. Check that the power cord is plugged in and then switch on the printer by
pressing the Power/Reset button.
Note:
It takes approximately 9 minutes before the printer can start
printing. After approximately 6 minutes the READY message
appears and from then on you can send print jobs to the
printer, but it will take another five minutes for the printer
head to heat up. When you send print jobs to the printer
during this five minutes, the printer will use that time to
calculate the print job and the display will inform you that
the printer is warming up.
• If, on the front panel display, the print queue screen is shown, the
status indicator LED is green and blinking.
Note: The tray must only be filled if not more than 10 film sheets
are remaining in the tray.

WARNING:
To avoid possible film jams, make sure to open input tray all
the way.
2. The printer is ready to receive a new film when the following message
appears:
Note: You can put the film pack onto a table to make
manipulation easier. Before you do this, make sure that the
table is dust-free!
7. Slide the film pack into the input tray, and remove the plastic film bag
completely.
Note: Never load another film format when the input tray is
not empty. Intermediate changing of film formats increases
the risk for dust, which can damage the thermal print head
(TPH).
WARNING:
Never reuse a jammed film.
When closing the input tray, the Film Identification tag is read and the printer
settings are automatically adjusted. The Film Identification tag is located on
the protective sheet on the backside of the film pack. The figure below shows
the film pack upside down.
For some new film types, the Film Identification tag will be covered by a
sticker and therefore will not be visible.
• Push the + button to increase the value for the applicable film size
• Push the - button to decrease the value for the applicable film size
The number of extra film sheets must not be higher than 10.
3. Press the button to return to the welcome screen.

3. Open the bottom door.
If a film is jammed, gently remove the sheet. Reposition the film stack in
the film tray, making sure that all the sheets are kept correctly.
Note: Never use force to clear the jammed film. If it is not
possible to gently remove the jammed film, call your local
service organization.
For better accessibility, the tray can be removed from the printer by lifting
it slightly and pulling it out completely.
3. Check if the film feed section of the input tray is clear.
4. Reposition the film stack in the film tray, making sure that all the sheets
are kept correctly in place.
5. Close the film input tray.

WARNING:
The print head unit can be warm.
5. If the film jam has been cleared, close the printer. You can resume work.
WARNING:
Never reuse a jammed film. This may cause damage to the
thermal head and/or dust problems.
Note: If the jam is still not cleared, call your local service
organization.

5. Open the front cover.
6. Remove the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly from the machine.
7. Push down the green lock lever and take the toner cartridge out of the
drum unit.
10. Put the new toner cartridge firmly into the drum unit until you hear it lock
into place.
Make sure you put the toner cartridge in correctly or it may separate from
the drum unit.
11. Clean the corona wire inside the drum unit by gently sliding the green tab
from left to right and right to left several times.
Be sure to return the tab to the Home position (▲). The arrow on the tab
must be aligned with the arrow on the drum unit. If it is not, printed pages
may have a vertical stripe.
12. Install the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly back into the machine.

Pulling the jammed paper downward using both hands allows you to
remove the paper more easily.
3. Fan the stack of paper to prevent further jams, and slide the paper guides
to fit the paper size.
4. Make sure the paper is below the maximum paper mark (▼▼▼)

WARNING:
HOT SURFACE. Internal parts of the printer will be
extremely hot. Wait for the printer to cool down before you
touch the internal parts of the printer.
7. Install the toner cartridge and drum unit assembly back into the machine.

cover.
WARNING:

3. Use both hands to gently pull the jammed paper out of the fuser unit.
4. Close the fuser cover. Make sure the blue tabs at the left and right sides
lock into place.

Never try to open the printer during printing. Always follow the
instructions on the display!

Warning messages
This section will inform you what to do when warning messages appear. A
warning message is displayed when an event has occurred that might
decrease image quality. Printing still remains possible.

Note: If you wish, you can try again to re-insert the current
or an other film pack. Press the Unlock button to initiate the
loading sequence. If you re-insert a film pack, the printer

4. Press the Confirm key again to resume printing using a limited Maximum
Density.
Try loading another film pack, or call your local service organization to
resolve this problem.
