Kara David's documentary, "I-Witness: Teacher Annie," highlights Annie Masongsong's

dedication and passion as a teacher to the Mangyans in the mountains of Oriental Mindoro,
capturing the hearts of viewers with her goodness and empathy. As I delved into this intriguing
documentary, I found myself identifying and empathizing with Teacher Annie as she embarked
on a two-hour journey and crossing several rivers to reach the remote mountain community of
the Mangyans, providing them education and better future of the Mangyan’s children. In this
reaction paper, I aim to share my feelings, thoughts, and reflections on this documentary.
One of the prominent themes in this documentary that deeply resonated with me is Teacher
Annie's dedication and passion for the Mangyan community. Her willingness to embark on a
challenging two-hour journey through rugged terrains and rivers is both humbling and inspiring
for me. Her unwavering commitment reflects her profound love for teaching and her strong
desire to have a positive impact on these children's lives. It serves as a poignant reminder of the
extraordinary lengths to which some educators go to ensure that every child has access to
education.
Furthermore, Teacher Annie did not simply teach the Mangyan’s as a teacher but also become
one of them. Her eagerness to learn and understand their culture and then integrate it into her
teaching methods is a clear demonstration of her compassionate and empathy of nature despite
the challenges through out the video.
In conclusion, while watching the documentary "I-Witness: Teacher Annie," it significantly
influenced my perspective on life and my understanding of how a teacher can willingly provide
education despite the remote location and limited resources available to the Mangyans. The
documentary vividly portrays the dedication, deep compassion, and the hardships faced by a
teacher. It served as a reminder of the importance of appreciating what teachers do in their
everyday lives when they commit their passion to educating others. It highlighted the sacrifices
and unwavering commitment that teachers like Annie Masongsong make, emphasizing the value
of their work in shaping the future and providing hope to underserved communities.
