UTM installation and UTM tasks report

Objective:

Setting up UTM on your device is crucial for creating a virtual machine to run
different operating systems. Specifically, we're installing Windows 11 through UTM
because VirtualBox isn't available for Mac computers. This report looks into the
process and importance of using UTM as an alternative for virtualization on macOS.

Introduction:

Virtual machines, or VMs, are like virtual computers that run on your actual
computer. They allow you to use different operating systems on one machine,
making it more efficient and flexible. VMs are useful for various tasks, from
consolidating servers in data centers to creating separate environments for
development and testing. In essence, they bring a lot of benefits by making
computing more versatile and efficient.

Setting up UTM virtual machine in mac:

Step:1
First of all go to https://mac.getutm.app/ to download UTM virtual machine for mac
(click download button to download) and install it on your device before we start to
install windows 11 in this case.
Step:2
After your UTM is installed open and you will see four Options among them you will
have to click “ Create a new virtual Machine” in order to setup new virtual operating
system in our device.

Step:3

After you click on “ Create a new virtual Machine” you will se a dialogue box with
options to virtualize and emulate, you need to chick Virtualize as we are creating
virtual environment for new OS rather than emulating it.
Step:4
After you click on virtualize you will see another dialogue box where you should
select which OS you are going to virtualize , in our case we are using win 11 so we
have to select windows, you can select according to your need.

Step:5
After you have clicked the type of opereting system , its time to select the ISO file of
the OS you have downloaded.In order to do that you need to click on brourse and
then locate the path you have downloaded the ISO file and select it and click
continue.

Step:6
After you have selected your iso , Now you need to allocate some Space from your Ram, Hard drive
and no of core of your cpu. here firstly you need to provide the space for ram in virtual operating
system , usually we keep 2 GB or more. And you also have to select the no of cpu core youre giving to
virtual operating system usually we leave default on that , or you can select in the dropdown menu.

After you hit continue you again have to provide spae for harddrive for your cpu. Allocate the space
according to your need and hit contiue. minumum space we need to provide is 25 GB.

Step:7
After you hit continue you will then be redirected to the home page of UTM where you now will see
the Windows 11 there. Start that windows so that your windows starts to be installed.

Step:8
After you start the windows you will see a screen which displays message called press any key to
continue.( remember you only need to press the key if you have to install the os). Press anykey and
you will see the windows page where you need to select language time and currency , keyboard
input , select according to your need and hit next.
Step 9:
After that you will be sent into the page where you need to enter your product key if you have , if you
dont simply select i dont have the product key on bottom right of your screen.
Step:10
After that you will be sent in the page where you have to select the win youb are going to install in the
VM.Select it and press next.

Step:11
After that you will be sent in the page where you have to accept the license terms, accept it and press
next.
Step:12
After that come the part where you need to select the partition of your drive where your OS will be
installed, select the drive and press next (Remember , the space can only be selected if the space is
unallocated space)

Step:13
After that you will see the screen where windows will be installing , wait for while untill the process is
finished.
Step:14
your OS is ready to use, setup the OS according to your need .

NOTE: Now you can open OS like in step 7 but remember you do not press anykey if you are not going
to setup any OS .
Different Tasks In UTM Virtual machine

1. Disk Cleanup

Step:1
Find disk cleanup app in your pc , you can find it by pressing start and searching it.

Step:2
After it is opened , you can see that multiple files are seleceted , press ok directly or selecting other
files to cleanup , according to you need. After pressing ok you will be asked that if you really want to
delect all the selected files permanently , select delete files.
Step:3
After that youi will see the process will be started and completed bt itself

Your Disk Cleanup id completed

2. Device manager( disable internet and sound and enable it again)

Step:1
Open Device manager and search for audio devices and network adapters as we are disabaling audio
and network.
Step:2
After fining them , click on it individually and you will see a pop up box where there are different tabs,
select Driver tab. After you select driver tab oyu can see the options, there click disable device inside
driver tab and your particular driver will be disabled
Step:3
It will ask you to confirm if you really want to disable it. Hit yes
Step:4
Both of your Your Driver is disabled.
You can check by looking at the bottm right of your desktop screen.
3. Open system information and show Hard drive information.

Step:1
Click the start button in the bottom-middle of your screen and type “system
Information” and press enter
Step:2

Click on ‘Storage’ and inside that click “disks” in order to see your hard drive
information

4. Show windows version and edition.

Click the start button in the bottom-middle of your screen and type “settings” and
press enter

After Setting is opened Choose ‘About’ tab on the left sidebar

5. Show your graphic driver information
Step:1

Open start menu and Search for ‘device manager’ and hit enter
Step:2
In the device manager window, Expand the “Display adapters” category

Step:3
Right click on your graphics card , in our case “ Red Hat VirLI GPU DOD ontroller” , and select
properties
Step:4
Go to “Driver” tab , and you will find information abput your graphics driver version.
