January 10, 2024 | Kawayan, Biliran – Yesterday, Dr. Romeo L. Dignos, PSTD of the
DOST Provincial Science and Technology Office of the Province of Biliran paid a
courtesy visit to the Municipal Mayor of Kawayan, Atty. Manolo D. Rubi. The purpose of
the visit was to officially inform the Mayor about the recent approval of the project
entitled, “Community Empowerment thru Science and Technology for Geographically
Isolated Community of Brgy. Ungale II, Kawayan, Biliran”.

The Department of Science and Technology Regional Office No. VIII (DOST VIII) and
the Biliran Provincial Science and Technology Office (PSTO Biliran) in partnership with
the Barangay Local Government Unit of Ungale II, Kawayan Biliran, and Ungale
Elementary School will collaborate to provide science and technology-based
interventions to the community of Ungale II through the CEST Program.

During the meeting, PD Dignos presented the project details to Mayor Rubi. He
emphasized how DOST’s assistance will leverage science, technology, and innovation
(STI) based interventions to address the community’s most pressing challenges.

Mayor Rubi expressed his full support for the project, commending the agency for its
commitment to community development and pledged the LGU's cooperation in ensuring
the project's successful implementation.
