GATEWAY DRUGS

-Is a general term describing the widely


noted phenomenon that
usingpsychoactive substances raises the
likelihood of using other substances.
EFFECTS: *
Alcohol: Short-term effects include
slurred speech, impaired coordination,
and impaired judgment. Addiction,
heart issues, and liver damage are the
long-term effects.
*Cannabis, or marijuana: Impaired
memory, elevated heart rate, and
altered perception are the short-
term effects.
Long-term effects include respiratory issues,
cardiovascular illnesses, and lung cancer.
*Caffeine: Short-term effects include elevated
mood and heightened alertness. Long-Term
Effects: Dependency; when used excessively,
sleep habits are disturbed.
DEPRESSANT DRUGS

-These are drugs that inhibit or decrease


the activity of the central nervous system.
The body may respond to depressants in
a calming or sedative way, which results
in less attentiveness and a feeling of
relaxation.

PAIN ALLEVIATION. ABUSE MAY
LEAD TO RESPIRATORY
DEPRESSION AND ADDICTION.
HALLUCINOGENS

-Hallucinogens are a class of


psychoactive drugs that can
affect mood, perception, and
other cognitive functions.
