Learning Episode 5:
Field
Creating an Appropriate Learning
Study Environment

At the end of this Episode, I must be able to:

 plan on how to manage time, space, and resources; and
 provide a learning environment appropriate to the learners and conducive to
learning.

Activity 5.1: Managing Time, Space and Learning Resources

Resource Teacher: Grade/ Year
Level:
Teacher’s Subject Area:
Signature:
School: Date:

Observe and use the observation sheet provided for you to document your observations.
1. As you observe the
class, investigate the
characteristics of the
learners. Note their
ages.
2. How many boys are
there? How many
girls?
3. Focus on their
behavior. Are they
already able to
manage their own
behavior?
4. Can the learners
already work
independently?

5. Describe their span of
attention.

REFLECT
1. Why do you need to enforce positive discipline?
_____Enforcing positive discipline is essential for several reasons. Firstly, positive discipline creates
a conducive and respectful learning environment, fostering a sense of safety and well-being among
students. It helps establish clear expectations for behavior, contributing to a structured and orderly
classroom. Additionally, positive discipline techniques, such as reinforcement of positive behavior,
contribute to the development of students' social and emotional skills. By focusing on positive
reinforcement rather than punitive measures, students are more likely to internalize and repeat
desired behaviors. Positive discipline also promotes a positive teacher-student relationship,
enhancing communication and trust. Overall, it cultivates a positive and productive atmosphere,
supporting both academic and personal growth in
students._________________________________________________________________________

2. What should the teacher have in mind when she/he designs the classroom organization and
routines? What theories and principles should you have in mind?
____positive reinforcement, and humanistic perspectives, emphasizing individual
autonomy, guides the creation of routines that encourage positive behaviors while
respecting students' individuality. Cognitive Load Theory informs the design of routines
that manage cognitive demands for efficient learning. Addressing Maslow's Hierarchy of
Needs involves creating routines that ensure students feel safe and connected. Vygotsky's
Social Development Theory supports routines fostering collaboration, and constructivist
principles inspire routines promoting active engagement. The Zone of Proximal
Development guides the creation of routines that challenge students appropriately. The
Responsive Classroom approach encourages routines prioritizing social-emotional learning,

while Universal Design for Learning principles ensure inclusivity. Finally, Self-
Determination Theory inspires routines that support autonomy, competence, and positive
relationships, fostering intrinsic motivation. In summary, integrating these theories informs
a holistic and student-centered approach to classroom design and management.

3. Which behavior strategies were effective in managing the behavior of the learners? In
motivating students? Why were they effective?
____Effective behavior strategies for managing learners and motivating students include
positive reinforcement, clear expectations, and rules, classroom rewards systems, consistent
consequences, individualized feedback, incorporation of student interests, collaborative
learning, variety in teaching methods, setting achievable goals, and building positive
teacher-student relationships. Positive reinforcement establishes a connection between
positive behavior and rewards, fostering motivation and a sense of accomplishment. Clear
expectations and rules provide structure, minimizing confusion and encouraging alignment
with desired behaviors. Classroom rewards systems and consistent consequences create
incentives and accountability, guiding students towards positive choices. Individualized
feedback acknowledges achievements, fostering a sense of competence. Incorporating
student interests and collaborative learning make lessons more engaging, while varied
teaching methods cater to diverse learning styles. Setting achievable goals and building
positive relationships contribute to a supportive learning environment, boosting motivation
and overall student
success.___________________________________________________________________

REFLECT
Reflect on the following and write your insights.
2. Imagine yourself organizing your classroom in the future. In what grade/year level do you
see yourself? What routines and procedures would you consider for this level? Why?

Field Study 1: Observations of Teaching-Learning in Actual School Environment (M.D. Lucas, PhD, et.al)
_____

_ use of lavatories / comfort room / washrooms, passing of papers in an orderly manner,

passing of books in an orderly manner, working with pairs/groups cooperatively,
submission of materials on time, submission of projects on time, asking questions during
lessons in polite manner, joining classroom activities, lining up, walking in line, use of
classroom supplies, checking of assignments, cleaning the classroom, cleaning in front of
the classroom, watering the plants, checking of uniform, checking of self grooming

3. Make a list of the rules that you are likely to implement in this level. Why would you
choose these rules?
_____establishes a foundation of respect and positive interpersonal relationships, fostering
a conducive learning environment where students feel valued and encouraged to engage in a
respectful and considerate manner.

___responsible time management helps instill a crucial life skill, ensuring that students
value and utilize their time effectively for learning and academic
success.___________________________________________________________________
_________active participation as a rule promotes a dynamic and engaging learning
environment, fostering a sense of involvement and collaboration among
students.__________________________________________________________________
________upholding good personal hygiene as a rule promotes a healthy and comfortable
learning environment, ensuring that students contribute to a clean and considerate
atmosphere that supports the well-being of everyone in the
class._____________________________________________________________________
______Enjoyment fosters motivation, curiosity, and a willingness to explore new concepts.
It can also contribute to a supportive and inclusive classroom culture, where students feel a
sense of belonging and enthusiasm for their educational journey. Ultimately, prioritizing
enjoyment in the classroom promotes a love for learning, making education a fulfilling and
lifelong
pursuit.___________________________________________________________________

4. Should learners be involved in making the class rules? Why?

______When students actively contribute to establishing rules, they are more likely to
understand, respect, and adhere to them. This collaborative approach promotes a democratic
and inclusive learning environment, encouraging open communication and empowering

Field Study 1: Observations of Teaching-Learning in Actual School Environment (M.D. Lucas, PhD, et.al)
students to voice their opinions. Additionally, students may offer valuable insights into
practical and relevant rules that address their specific needs and challenges. Ultimately,
student involvement in rule-making fosters a positive and engaging classroom culture,
aligning with a student-centered educational
approach__________________________________________________________________
________positive .__________________________________________________________
__________________Implementing positive reinforcement strategies in the classroom
significantly influences children's behaviors by creating a supportive and motivating
environment. Verbal praise, rewards, certificates, and classroom recognition positively
reinforce desired actions, encouraging children to repeat those behaviors. Preferred seating,
extra responsibilities, and special privileges provide a sense of autonomy, fostering a
connection between positive conduct and enjoyable experiences. Positive phone calls home
strengthen the home-school relationship and amplify the impact of reinforcement.
Classroom celebrations and peer recognition contribute to a positive peer culture,
influencing children to engage in cooperative and respectful behavior. Positive feedback in
assignments not only acknowledges achievements but also encourages a growth mindset.
Overall, these strategies shape children's behaviors by promoting a culture of positivity,
intrinsic motivation, and a sense of
accomplishment.____________________________________________________________

____________Observing Ma'am Limsay's approach to reinforcing positive behavior in the
classroom is enlightening. Her use of positive reinforcement strategies, such as verbal
praise when the students partiucipate in recitation, rewards of plus points when they got a
perfect score in the quiz, and special privileges like immunity to the activity, creates an
encouraging and motivating atmosphere. I noticed that when addressing misbehavior,
especially with the boys at the back and the chattering girls at the side, she employs non-
confrontational measures like making eye contact and calling their names. This approach is
effective in redirecting attention without causing disruption. It reflects a balanced blend of
firmness and empathy, encouraging students to self-correct while maintaining a positive
classroom climate. Ma'am Limsay's skillful use of positive reinforcement and gentle
redirection contributes to a harmonious learning environment where students feel supported
and motivated to exhibit positive
behavior.________________________________________________________________
