Should Video Games be Used in Education ?

Computer games have developed rapidly and have become popular in recent years.
Young people, adolescents and even adults spend a few hours a day playing computer games.
Computer games and school are associated in more ways than at any time. The current age is the
age most affected by innovation because it is the means by which they know a ton of
information. Despite the fact that computer games have been viewed as unnecessary
entertainment with no educational value, I disagree. Computer games are compelling apparatuses
for learning, as it can upgrade understudies' abilities both inside and outside the classroom
environment.
Video games can be used as instructional tools as well. Experiments on the University of
Rochester have supplied promising facts to assist video games. People who play video games
process visual information faster, according to Nature Magazine May 29th, they can track 30%
more objects than non-players. How can it be more effective? Video games offer a very distinct
gaining knowledge of method than conventional books. For example, college students who play
soccer video games like FIFA study the specific guidelines approximately the real game. A
student who had no idea of soccer can learn just by playing a video game. Video games provide
entertainment value, not only that but also additionally have the strength to teach. This approach
may be abused while students come to be hooked on violent video games with severe
consequences when practiced in real life. Nevertheless, video games can improve student’s
cognitive skills, especially those related to problem solving and provide students with practical
experience, which helps them understand the material better. It is mandatory for every
educational institution to carry out education in advance regarding computer games so that it is
not abused and carefully select the types of games to be used.
In the end, it would be unwise to say that video games should be banned in today's digital
information age. After knowing the benefits as described above, educational institutions should
start using video games as learning media. As this is useful to explore the creativity of teachers
and students in utilizing technology. For all students to benefit from Edtech innovations,
educational institutions should pay attention to funding for higher technology suites. Otherwise,
the instructional possibilities given through video games will never really be discovered and the
students will suffer. Teachers need to be given direction to make creative innovations regarding
the process of providing material in the classroom in easy accepted way by using video games.
