Social Media Marketing as a Promotional Strategy:

Advantages:

- there are different methods a business can try in social media marketing and choose what suits
it best
example: boost on instagram, paid ad on facebook, giveaways, influencer advertisements etc
- it is accessible to everyone: everyone spends hours a day on social media

- businesses can keep track of trends to know what to make when creating products in order to
generate sales

- businesses can be updated with what their rivals are doing and the current market prices

Disadvantages:

- there are many competitors in each market, it can make it harder for businesses to stand out
example: different clothing brands opened during Covid-19, this makes it harder for a clothing
business to attract customers when there are many other rivals in the industry

- a business can be reported and shut down by users which can cause it to lose its followers and
posts

- may be hard to convince customers to buy a product if they are suspicious of the quality
example: customers may not trust the brand quality if they cannot see it in real life
Guerilla Marketing:

Guerilla marketing is an advertisement strategy concept designed for businesses to promote

their products or services in an unconventional way with little budget to spend. It aims at
creating memorable images and catching the public’s eye, by using creative and imaginative
means. The main advantage of guerilla marketing is that its done in public places such as parks,
subways, and centers to attract the most possible number of people. The concept was created by
Conrad Levinson, and it is a way of moving from traditional to online and electronic marketing.
Two types of guerilla marketing are viral marketing and buzz marketing. Guerilla marketing
involves practices and techniques that establish direct contact with customers. The main goal of
such interactions is to cause emotional reactions in customers and hence make them remember
brands in different ways than they used to before. The main challenge in guerilla marketing is
doing it in the perfect time and place, without being involved in any legal issues. This method
also targets the unconscious mind, by creating images of brands in customers’ minds when
purchasing. This type of advertising is most suitable for small businesses who can’t afford to
spend money on marketing to promote their products. The overall goal of guerilla marketing is to
create a memorable experience for consumers. It allows businesses who don’t provide a tangible
service to effectively increase brand awareness through non traditional channels.
