Narrator: Level 4, Unit Tests: Unit 5, Narrator: Section 2

Section 1
Listen to the interviews and decide if the information
relates to an exception (E) or a general statement
(GS). You will hear the recording twice.
Narrator: Interview 1
Interviewer: Did you enjoy coming to the gallery
today?
Student: On the whole, coming to the gallery was a
positive experience. I thought the portraits were very
powerful, but seeing the installations was a little
disappointing. Except for one by Diego Garcia,
which was absolutely amazing, I thought they were
pretty average.
Narrator: Interview 2
Interviewer: How did you feel about what you saw
at the exhibition today?
Student: Walking around galleries is a waste of
time, in my opinion. I didn't like anything apart from
the graffiti and the street art. By and large, I think
today showed me that art is dull.
Narrator: Interview 3
Interviewer: You're responsible for most of these
collages, aren't you? Has the exhibition been a
success?
Artist: Showing my work to the public for the first
time was terrifying. Generally, it went well, with the
exception of some comments I heard about my
creations, which hurt my feelings. However, my
work is unfamiliar to most people, so I have to
expect some negative responses.

Interviewer: There's been a powerful response to
your art from students visiting today, hasn't there?
Diego: Yeah, they seemed to find it really moving.
Seeing that was amazing. In the old days, I never
saw people's responses, except when I was walking
past a painting that I'd done on the street and heard
people talking about it by accident.
Interviewer: What was it like when you put graffiti
on canvas for the first time?
Diego: Putting graffiti on canvas really took me out
of my comfort zone. Suddenly I felt that my work
wasn't good enough. It was like painting on canvas
made me a real artist and I needed to produce
something better than what I'd done on the street.
Interviewer: Are you happy that you've now
revealed your true identity to the public?
Diego: In general, I think it's been good for me.
Except for the fact that I've had some criticism for
some of the work I did on the street.
Interviewer: I thought people would be happy to
have your work in their town!
Diego: As a rule people are, but there are always
exceptions.

Interviewer: The students have been very well
behaved, haven't they?
Teacher: Yes, on the whole they have. For an art
teacher like me, bringing the kids here and showing
them some of the things I've been teaching them
about in class was wonderful. They really enjoyed
the performance art by Alejandro Tenorio. It was a
moving and dramatic show.

Narrator: Interview 5
Interviewer: Your work has received a lot of
attention, hasn't it, Diego?
Diego: Yes, it has. Apart from a couple of small
problems with organization, I'm very happy with how
this exhibition has gone for me. Before showing my
installation to the public, I was worried about what
people would say. It's a very controversial piece.
However, most people responded positively.
