COCA-COLA HISTORY

• The product was born in Atlanta, Georgia


on May 8th 1886.
• It was invented by Dr. John Stith
Pemberton, a local pharmacist who
produced a syrup for Coca-Cola.
• He carried the product to Jacobs'
Pharmacy, where it was sampled,
pronounced "excellent" and placed on
sale for five cents a glass as a soda
fountain drink.
• 9 drinks a day were sold during this day.

• Carbonated water was mixed with the new
syrup to produce a drink that was at once
"Delicious and Refreshing," a theme that
continues to echo today wherever Coca-Cola
is enjoyed.
• I887 coupons are first used to promote the
brand.

Mr Asa Griggs Candler acquired Coca-Cola ‘s
formula and patents from John Pemberton in
1888.
In 1899, The rights to bottle Coca-Cola in most of
the United States are sold by Asa Candler to
Benjamin F. Thomas and Joseph B. Whitehead of
Chattanooga, Tennessee, for $1. Chattanooga
becomes the first city to bottle Coca-Cola under
the contract.

• In 1919 the first bottling plants are opened in
Europe in Paris and Bordeaux.
The Coca-Cola Company is purchased by a
group of investors led by Ernest Woodruff for
$25 million.
In 1945 “Coke” becomes a registered trademark of
