MEU 07201: Basic Computer Aided Drafting

Tutorial 1: Preparing AutoCAD Drawing Area

Objective
To practice setting up of the drawing area, grid and snap setting, line command, use of @
in entering co-ordinates. The Line, Offset, Trim and Zoom commands.

Tasks
1. Open AutoCAD using start from scratch method.
2. Make at least the following setting:
a. Drawing units in millimeters with precision set to zero decimal place.
b. Drawing limits the size of an A3 sheet of paper in landscape mode.
c. Units for angles in degrees with zero decimal place.
d. Angle measurement anticlockwise with reference taken parallel to positive x-
axis.
3. Set grid ON and grid spacing 10 mm.
4. Set snap ON and snap spacing 1 mm.
5. Set ORTHO mode ON.
6. Set object snap OFF.
7. Draw margins corresponding to the A3 sheet of paper (i.e. 25 mm left, 5 mm right,
bottom and top).
8. Draw a standard title block as shown in fig. 1.1 below. (Don’t put dimensions).
9. Save as Tut1.
10. Exit AutoCAD.
