Thank you Teikauea for the question. Based on your discussion on ocean resources, I agree that marine
or ocean resources are regarded as main spots for people of the Pacific to use and rely for their survival.
Some of the examples as to how people use and rely for their survival includes carrying out fishing
activities, gain access of tidal energy, minerals(salt) and most importantly it provides food for survival.
The protection of ocean is important as ocean is regarded as an essential component of Earth’s
ecosystem providing source of life, food and biodiversity. Some of the ways in which we can protect our
ocean from threats includes practicing safe boating, fishing responsibly, reducing the use of plastics, and
avoiding the disposal of hazardous products in the ocean. Ocean conservation helps to prevent over
exploitation of marine resources.

Thank you Nivshil for the question. Based on your discussion on Mining in the Pacific, I agree that mining
has become a significant aspect in almost all Pacific countries. Mining industries provides minerals, raw
materials and metals important for production in the economy. In addition, mining generates impacts
that could prove harmful to the environment and to the people in the near future. The impacts of
mining in the Pacific on natural resources in the future includes changes in the pattern of rainfall,
sedimentation, loss of biodiversity and contamination of soil. The immediate measure that can be taken
now by Pacific Islanders to reduce future exploitation of natural environment includes planting trees to
prevent soil erosion, reduce inputs in the mining industries as it uses a large amount of water and land
in their operations, reducing dependency on fossil fuels and change industrial process which harms
natural environment.
