Introduction
The new Case N Series Loader/Backhoes have exceptional boom and dipper lifting specifica-
tions. The strength of the new N Series Loader/Backhoe allows operators to easily position, dig
and lift virtually any item, but what about those times when just a little extra lifting power is
required?

Power Lift Option

The Case Construction brand is excited to announce the Power Lift option for the 580 Super N
and larger machines.
The Power Lift option not only increases the hydraulic capacities of the boom, but also the
strength of the dipper and bucket crowd. So instead of bringing in an excavator or a larger back-
hoe to do the job….order the Power Lift option for your customer.
3
How Does It Work?
The Power Lift option works by increasing the system pressure while reducing the engine RPM.
When selected, the operator will hear a significant drop in engine RPM.
The higher pressure significantly improves the backhoe performance, both above and below
grade.
The Power Lift function is optional on the 580 Super N, the 580 Super N Wide Track and the
590 Super N. It is activated by a rocker switch (shown below in this photograph) that is placed
on the left side console for easy access while the operator is in the rear facing position.

The chart below shows a comparison of the N Series loader/backhoe lift capacities1 when
equipped with and without the Power Lift option.

5
So what can the Power Lift option do for your customer?

Depending on the machine model, the Power Lift option allows your customer the ability to lift 8-
16% above the same standard configuration machine. As you can see from the chart above, the
Power Lift option truly makes the 580 Super N Wide Track a unique machine in its size class.

By lowering the RPMs, the operator has the ability to precisely place the object with a steady
and smooth movement. Keep in mind that due to the higher system pressure and lower RPMs,
it is not recommended to leave loader/backhoe in the Power Lift mode for normal operating con-
ditions.

The Power Lift option isn't only for lifting. Because it affects the dipper and bucket crowd forces
also, it can be used to break through extreme conditions such as a frost line, dry clay or roots. In
field tests with actual customers, it was found that when operating a standard machine without
the Power Lift feature, they would have to stop what they were doing, change their bucket to a
frost tooth and use that to open their excavation. However, with the Power Lift feature, the oper-
ator was able to penetrate the frost line and open their excavation without wasting time and
money to switch to a frost tooth. This option is ideal for every customer using the backhoe por-
tion of their loader/backhoe. There is a true time and cost savings that you can quantify to your
customer—no need to stop work and change attachments and no need to purchase that addi-
tional attachment!

Keep in mind that this feature does not increase the dipper lift capacities measured per SAE at
a 65 degree boom angle because the dipper lift is limited by the boom cylinder holding capacity
and is exceeded without the Power Lift option. Therefore, the dipper lifting capacities measured
per SAE at a 65 degree boom angle are the same, regardless of whether the machine has the
Power Lift option or not. However, an increase in dipper lift power would be noticed at lower
boom angles.
6
How does it compare to the competition?

The Case Power Lift option allows the Case models to outperform the competition. When lifting,
customers want performance throughout the cycle of the backhoe. Case now delivers superior
performance than the top competitors!

The data listed below is Case's true, published performance on the N Series. The competitive
information is based on current competitive specification sheets, but actual performance has
been known to vary based on tests done by Case.
