The Government of Canada is structured into 3 levels of government that each

provide services for its citizens. The 3 levels of government are: municipal,
provincial, and federal. Each level has different responsibilities to provide for
Canadians.

Municipal
The Municipal government controls the cities in Canada.
The leader of each municipality is the Mayor. The Mayor works
with city Councilors to listen to the people living in their city
and make changes to keep them happy. The Mayor and Councilors
are elected into power by the citizens of their city. Some responsibilities the
municipal government takes care of are garbage pickup, libraries, recreational
centers, parks, roads, snow removal, police and many more.

Provincial
The Provincial government controls the provinces in Canada.
The leader is the Premier who works with elected Members of

Some responsibilities that the province is in control of are schools,

hospitals, roads, police, energy and resources, tourism, and many
more.

Federal
The Federal government is in control of the entire country. The leader is our
Prime Minister, who works in the capital city of Canada Ottawa. They are
responsible for listening to all of the citizens of Canada and passing laws to make
the majority happy.
The Prime Minister is elected into office and works
with their cabinet leaders as well as the senate to make
decisions for Canada. Some responsibilities that the Federal
government is in control of are international relations,
citizenship and immigration, police, national defense,
labour, environment, national economy, and more.

Shared
Some responsibilities are shared amongst all 3 levels of government. For
example, we have 3 levels of police: Federal: RCMP, Provincial: OPP, Municipal:
Local Police. Other examples are parks, roads, and tourism.
