1. Explain the factors that influence the wellbeing of children and

young people (AC 1.1)

There are many factors which contribute to the wellbeing of children and young people such as
attachment, relationships, emotional security, health, diet ,self-esteem, exercise and so on
below I have explained some of the factors.

The factors that influence the wellbeing of children and young people are:
• Attachment
Attachments are formed in the very earliest months and years of life. These have a significant
influence on emotional development as well as providing a template for the child as he or she
grows into adulthood
• Relationships.
Good relationships are really important for children’s wellbeing. Children have a deep, natural
need to connect with other people and to belong to a social group. A child’s ability to develop
good relationships is an extremely important step on the path to getting the best out of his or her
life.
• Emotional security.
This is when a child feels secure and loved by the adults in their life. Helping a child to establish
emotional security can be as simple as practicing consistency, connection and compassion.
• Health.
It is important for a child to be healthy and learn what keeps them healthy and what can be
detrimental to their health.
• Self esteem.
Healthy self-esteem is like a child's armor against the challenges of the world. Kids who know
their strengths and weaknesses and feel good about themselves seem to have an easier time
handling conflicts and resisting negative pressures.
• Diet.
Good nutrition and a balanced diet help children to grow up healthy. Children and young people
need to be taught about eating healthily diet.
• Exercise.
Children who do regular exercise generally enjoy high self-esteem, which gives a good impact in
all aspects of life of the children, from school performance to social wellbeing.
• Rest and sleep.
It is vital for children and young people to get the rest they require and enough sleep to remain
healthy and alert. In order to do this they need a comfortable and secure place.
Do so.

Children and young people need to be guided and educated through their early years and kept
on track to stay healthy. They should be advised on all the things that will keepthem healthy and
also the things that can damage their health for example, smoking, drinking and drugs.

2. Explain the importance of resilience for children and young

people (AC1.2)

It is important to inspire and teach resilience to children and young people because it gives them
coping mechanisms. It develops independence, empowers them, and gives them the skills to become
responsible, emphatic. It gives them the tools to communicate with confidence. It also enables them to
solve problem and handle negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It helps them face the world
more optimistically – with hope, faith and trust in their own abilities. Resilience stops them feeling
lonely, fearful and vulnerable. It’s a key to their success.

3. Analyse effective ways of promoting wellbeing and resilience in

the work setting (AC. 1.3 )

This is based on understanding of how children and young people develop in their families and
communities and addressing their needs at the earliest possible time. As a project worker it is
our duty to promote wellbeing among the children and young people. There are various ways to
promote wellbeing.

1. Keeping children and young people safe

Emotional and physical safety is fundamental for children’s wellbeing. As a keyworker for
children it is our duty to provide a fear free environment to our children. Concept of keeping the
children is wider than child protection.

2. Listen to views

Children and young people should have their views listened to and they should be involved in
decisions that affect them. We should always respect their views and encourage them to express
their feelings

3. Taking a child Centred approach

Any planning and decision should be made by keeping the child in the centre. By always thinking
about the best interest of the particular children

4. Building on strengths and promoting resilience

Boosting the confidence of children and young people we can make them mentally strong and
resilience towards any hardships.

5. Promoting opportunities and valuing diversity

Children and young people should feel valued in all circumstances and practitioners should
create opportunities to celebrate diversity

6. Providing additional help that is appropriate

,
Providing help as early as possible and considering short and long-term needs
Supporting informed choice. And always identify the additional needs of the children and young
person.

4. Describe ways of working with carers to promote wellbeing and

resilience in children and young people (AC. 1.4)

A care practitioner is able to support the development of children's self-confidence, self-

esteem and resilience in a variety of ways.

Provide consistent boundaries so that children know what is expected of them.

Use praise and encouragement to support individual efforts and celebrate achievements.
Recognise the importance of each step a child takes towards indecencies and celebrate that
accomplishment. Include children in decision making and ensure choices are provided so
children take control. Listen and respect children, showing genuine interest .Respond to
children with warmth, patience and genuine interest. Respect their right to have their own
opinions.
Provide opportunities for children to achieve and do things they feel proud of.
By working in partnership with parents and carers we able to share these examples in differing
ways to support children in both their environments - at home and in the setting. We should
have a positive, supportive, respectful attitudes and approach to partnerships. Involving
parents in assessments
Give a chance to the parents to observe their children and share information that enables a
setting to plan for children's best interests.

5. Explain why social and emotional identity are important to the

wellbeing and resilience of children and young people (AC 2.1)

Social and emotional identity is very important to the wellbeing and resilience of children and
young people. It ever changing, growing, and developing with the child as a result of the
child’s life experiences. Those experiences shape a child’s sense of who they are, where they
belong and how society views them. How a child is spoken to and treated impacts on their
emotional identity. Negative interaction with a child or young person will result in a negative
identity. If a child is ignored, not given enough expectations, lacks support and
encouragement they may view themselves as someone of little importance or worth. The
environment in which they live can impact on their social identity. If they come from an area
that is run down or known for its social problems they will be viewed as being part of the
culture of the area. They will be given a negative social identity and may adopt one because it
is the norm in the area or they have a desire to fit in. This could negatively impact on their
well-being and resilience. So as a project worker it is our moral duty to make positive contact
at all time for the well-being of our children and young people.

6. Explain how to support children and young people to identify

with their own self-image and identity (AC. 2.2)

Identity and self-image is a key to a child or young person’s well-being. A lack of identity leads
to a sense of not belonging, of being an ‘outsider’. A poor self-image leads to negative feeling
about who they are and what they can achieve, resulting in poor self-esteem. It is therefore
important that children and young people are encouraged and supported to understand, not
only their own self-image and identity, but those of the people around them. Identity and self-
image are about a sense of belonging. By showing children and young people that we are all
different and that this is acceptable if we give them the confidence to be themselves. By being
understanding and adaptable we can show them that they can develop and change their
sense of who they are with each new experience and become the person they want to be.

7. Explain how goals and targets identified as part of the planning

process contribute towards building the self-esteem of children
or young people (AC. 2.5)

As a practitioner it is our duty to identify the goals and target for the children and young
person. In our setting we always work closely with the children to identify their needs. Once
we can identify the needs we can than set targets and goals for the children. We always
evaluate the development of our children to identify any additional need. With the changes we
can change our goals as well. We as a project worker always plan for our children while
planning our main duty is to set goals for our children and also work with them to achieve the
goals. We always include our children while we plan any new activity for them. We also find
out information about our child from other staff members. We do get feedback from group
supervision. We also take parents/carers feedback. This all enables us to set appropriate
targets and goals for our children and young people.

8. Explain how a solution focused approach will encourage

children and young people to have a positive outlook on their
lives (AC. 3.2)

A solution focused approach gets children and young people to look at how they would like to
see their preferred future. It then gets them to look at what is going right for them at the
moment and explores the small steps needed to continue on this path in order to attain their
preferred future .It helps children and young people develop a sense of personal
responsibility, they can identify with how, by taking a more positive approach to their life and
the choices they make, they can change the direction in which their life may be heading for
the better. While working with children we should always come up with ideas and give our
children the hope that they are not alone and there is a plan for them to succeed. This brings
a positive change in the children’s life and they feel more confident towards themselves and
also towards their lives.

9. Explain the importance of informing relevant people when there are

concerns about a child or young person’s health or wellbeing (AC.4.4)

I have a duty, under my settings Child Protection and Welfare Policies to report any concerns
that I have regarding a child’s health and well-being. Failure to report it means I am failing the
child. As an care professional it also my moral duty to look after children wellbeing and report
any concern that I have with the appropriate authorities. In my setting if we have any concern
first we inform our senior project worker than to our co-ordinator and then manager. We all
discuss the situation and later inform local authority or social services if required. We also
inform the family. For the wellbeing of the children early intervention is the best solution.
Faster we react sooner the children will come out of the difficulty. The later the intervention
the harder it becomes to reverse the negative impacts.
