Ang Bahay ni Nanay Eden

"Ang Bahay ni Nanay Eden" is a documentary film produced by Reel Time, a

Philippine television documentary show broadcast by GMA News TV. The film aired on
January 17, 2020. This is about the art of letting go. Nanay Eden is sentimental. She
valued all the gifts she received, the test papers of her children, and other things that held
memories for her. She collects and sells items. This became her hobby; however, her
hobby became a pile in her home, causing health issues and dust build-up. Reel Time
sent a psychologist and a deep cleaning service to help her understand the negative
effects of piles. It was hard for her to let go of those things, but she eventually accepted
them for the betterment of their health.

Moreover, we should be consciously selective of our material things because they

can have a positive impact on our lives and our environment. Some advantages include
reducing clutter and stress, expenses, and mindful consumption. Taking time to be wise
and mindful of purchases can help us achieve a sustainable life. It is also important that
we prioritize our needs, especially when our finances are just right or sufficient. In
addition, it is necessary to differentiate needs from wants, because we should be
knowledgeable about our essentials in life, such as food, water, shelter, and clothing. On
the other hand, wants go beyond basic needs in life, such as concert tickets, albums, and
luxury items. When we buy these wants, we have feelings of excitement, pleasure, and
satisfaction. Classifying our needs based on wants helps us make good financial
decisions. Knowing the difference between essentials and desires allows us to prioritize
spending and ensure that basic needs are met before purchasing items that are merely
desired. This can help us create more manageable budgets and ensure that we pay
payments over time.

Therefore, like Nanay Eden, we should realize the material things that we need
and are essential to us. Letting go is not easy but a process. It is not wrong to collect the
things that we want, but we should do it moderately, because anything in excess is
harmful. Indeed, conscious purchasing decisions can improve our lives and environment
by lowering clutter, stress, and costs. Sustainable life depends on prioritizing needs and
differentiating them from wants. Making wise financial choices requires understanding
basic requirements, such as food, water, shelter, and clothing, as well as concert tickets
or luxuries. This makes budgeting easier, and guarantees on-time payments for bills.
Being practical in life benefits us, and causes fewer problems.
