Questions for Reflection:

1. Discuss the impact of science on society.

Science has a huge impact on society in different fields. Through science, it

contributes innovation that helps individuals explore and discover new things that are useful
in different fields such as education, agriculture, medicine, and technology. Due to these
contributions, the advent of science and technology has had a tremendous impact on modern
civilization, which affects the way of life of people in society, enhances our survival and
quality of life, and can provide solutions to different issues in society. For instance, it is now
easier to communicate than before because of modern devices, transportation and
infrastructure evolve, and through science, agriculture activity increases because people adopt
farming techniques that were adopted by using machinery and equipment.

2. Using the biological spectrum, explain the scope and meaning of Ecology.

Ecology deals with organisms, their environment, and how they interact. All
organisms have relationships with other organisms, both within and outside of their own
species. Through different levels of ecological organization that include cells, population,
ecosystem, and biosphere. Each of these levels is interconnected and influenced by the others.
And between species, relationships can also be mutually beneficial, harmful, or neutral.

3. Trace the history of Ecology and discuss how industrial revolution affected the
conditions of the environment.

The history of ecology can be traced back to ancient Greek philosophers such as Aristotle
in 384–322 BCE, who wrote about the interrelationships between organisms and their
environment. However, modern ecology as a field of science emerged in the late 19th
century.

The industrial revolution, which occurred from the late 18th century to the early 19th
century, had an impact on the environment. The shift from an agricultural to an industrial
society has led to the distraction of habitats and the overexploitation of many natural
resources. The main issue with the industrial revolution is the release of pollutants into the
environment.

4. How is Ecology related to other disciplines?

Ecology is closely related to other disciplines in the social sciences, particularly

environmental sociology. Since human activities have significant impacts on ecosystems and
biodiversity, as well as the relationship between how human behaviors affect or influence
ecological systems.

5. How do you apply the laws of Ecology to human society?

Humans must be responsible for how to manage and conserve the resources in the
environment effectively. By protecting and promoting a sustainable environment, everyone
receives benefits from it, not only for humans but also for all organisms that can be found in
ecosystems. For instance, protecting natural habitat and avoiding activities that can contribute
to habitat destruction can prevent ecosystem destruction.
