TOPIC : Cultural Research

TASK : Pre-Observation Report & Documentary Videos


LESSON OBJECTIVE:

1. Students will explore the cultural diversity within the immediate neighborhood by
observing and documenting cultural practices, businesses, and community events.
This research aims to enhance students' understanding of the cultural fabric of their
local area.
2. Encourage creativity in presenting findings - consider cultural artifacts, traditional
dress, or small demonstrations around the object destination.

Instruction:
1. Form 8 groups, each group will be delegated to investigate, do the observation, and
create a pre-observation report as the first product, and Documentary Video as the
second product.
2. Students should conduct on-site observations, interviews, and research to gather
information.
3. Select a Focus Area:
● One group should choose a specific neighborhood or community within your city
or town to explore.
● Identify a focal point or theme for your exploration (e.g., religious practices,
culinary traditions, community events, etc.)
4. Conduct Observations:
● Observe and document cultural practices within the chosen focus area.
● The observation period would start at the beginning of January 2024.
● Note the diversity of cultural expressions, traditions, and rituals.
● Pay attention to the presence of businesses that reflect cultural diversity (e.g., ethnic
markets, restaurants, places of worship).
5. Interview Community Members:
● Conduct interviews with members of the community to gather personal insights and
stories related to cultural practices.
● Ask open-ended questions that encourage individuals to share their experiences and
perspectives.
6. Create a multimedia presentation:
● Compile your findings into a multimedia presentation (video documentary; interactive
presentation).
● Include visuals such as photographs, videos, or audio recordings to enhance your
presentation.
7. Provide Cultural Analysis:
● Reflect on the significance of the cultural practices and events you observed,
● Analyze how these cultural elements contribute to the diversity and vibrancy of the
neighborhood,
● Consider the impact of cultural diversity on community cohesion and identity.
8. From this project, you will get an AP score (Pre-observation report in PPT) and a Daily
Test score (documentaries video).
9. Students would submit their progress individually, but the final product may be sent by the
group’s representative.
