Yes, these structures are somehow similar to
each other because they are all made up of
cells. These cells made it possible for the
structures to develop and perform specific
functions. They are interconnected with each
other.
If we arrange them from the simplest to the
most complex level, it would look like this. Red
Blood Cell-Epithelial Tissue-Body Organs-
Organs System Organism-Population-
Community-Ecosystem-
Biosphere.

To better understand this concept, let us now
start with the discussion.
What do you think biological organization
means?
Biological organization is the order of living
things from the smallest or simplest parts to
the largest or most complex parts.
The simplest level is the cell.
Do you know what a cell is?
Cell is the basic structural unit of life.
The cell is the lowest level in biological
organization. All organism is made up of cells.
Because we are all made up of cells, it is
considered as the building blocks of life.
The next one is the tissue.
Tissue is made up of structurally similar cells
that work together to perform a common
function.
An example of tissues in animals are epithelial
tissue, connective tissue, muscle tissue, and
nervous tissue. They are distributed in the
different parts of the body and perform
specific functions.
In plants, dermal tissue covers the plant and
can be found on the outer layer of roots, stems,
and leaves. Ground tissue stores molecules,
and photosynthesize or support plants.
Vascular tissue is the plumbing system of the
plant. It allows water, minerals, and dissolved
sugars from photosynthesis to pass through
roots, stems, leaves, and other parts of the
plant.
On the other hand, an Organ is a group of
tissues that are similar in structure and work
together to perform a common task.
What does it mean? Can you give me an
example of an organ?
When different organs work together to
perform physiological processes it is now
referred to as the Organ System.
What is an example of an organ system?
The Digestive System for example consists of
different organs that work together in order to
digest the foods that we intake.
With the formation of the Organs Systems, we
will now have the organisms.
Organism refers to any living things or any
form of life.
Can you give me an example of an organism?
Your answers are all correct. Even bacteria,
viruses, and parasites are considered as an
organism because they are also made up of
cells.
When there is a group of organisms that are of
the same species found in a specific area at a
given time it is referred to as Populations.
How can you explain populations?
Okay, thank you! In this classroom, we are
referred to as a population. We are organisms
of the same species that are currently in a
specific area. A population of students.
Do you understand?
When all the different populations of species
interact with each other within a certain area,
it is called a Community.
At this level, organisms of different species
may compete for resources such as food,
water, and land or shelter.
An example of a community is the school, there
are animals and plants in our surroundings
and we interact with them.

Okay, so I have a question. Do you think there
is a need for nonliving and living things to
interact?
There is actually a need for these two to
interact because the interaction of the two
forms the ecosystem.
It is the second complex level of biological
organization.
Ecosystem is made up of all living
communities that interact with all the non-
living, physical components of the
environment.

Then can you give me an example of an
ecosystem?
With that, we are now moving forward to the
most complex level of biological organization.
It is the Biosphere.
The biosphere comprises all of the
ecosystems on Earth’s surface that are added
together where life exists and the abiotic
environments that they reside in.
What does it mean?
In the Biosphere, all the life forms on Earth
can be found here including us. All
communities on Earth’s air, land, and water
where life is present are part of the biosphere.

It is for us to understand what living systems
are made up of, and make sense of the role that
we play in the interconnectedness of living
and non-living things on Earth.
Because you now know the importance of
understanding the levels of biological
organization, we will have a simple quiz.
For the quiz, we will do it through group work.
Just stick with your group earlier.
I will give you a material. Each set will be given
to 2 groups and it has the same or similar
content.” “Each group will be given 9 papers
with pictures or words written on them. What
you are going to do is identify their levels of
biological organization and arrange them from
the simplest to the most complex level. Paste
on the board your finished work.
