Subject: Installation of 132kV, 2 x 50 MVAR Capacitor Banks in NTDC Grid Stations

Ref: Your office letter No. 7487-91 dated 31-05-2023.

With reference to the above letter, this office this office has been requested for the provision of
transient studies result to ascertain the magnitude of transient overvoltage and inrush current. In this
regard, it is intimated that subject cited proposal for installation of 100 MVAR capacitor banks at
various grid stations has been proposed by this office based on reactive power requirement in steady
state condition by using PSS/E software. Therefore, the requisite data, i.e., the magnitude of
transient overvoltage and inrush current are equipment design parameters which does not fall under
purview of this office. Moreover, transient overvoltage and inrush current studies are performed on
other softwares which are not available in this office.
It is added that, a large number of capacitor banks are already functional at NTDC/DISCOs grid
stations which were installed after vetting by Design department and necessary information can be
taken from those projects.
