Case 01

Inspection right on the production line

Before adopting • Inspection had to be performed destructively

the VHX... • If any damage was found, all products using the steel sheets in the same lot had to be inspected

Customer: Steel sheet manufacturer

Manufactures large rolls of steel

Mount a high-magnification
lens to a mechanical arm
and move it to the area
needing inspection

Check for any scratches

Operator captures the scratches

in detail on the VHX

By using the VHX…

By extending the camera cable, the lens can be placed over the production line. Sections with defects can
now be captured with ease. This reduces the time to address problems after they have been discovered,
contributing to improved productivity.

2
Case 02

Significantly reduce inspection time

Before adopting • 100% inspection was not an option, thus all testing was reliant on random sampling
the VHX... • Samples needed to be cut for inspection in order to place on the microscope stage

Customer: Glass manufacturer

Manufactures cut glass for LCD TVs

Mount a prism at the tip of

the lens and place it parallel
to the production line

Operator views the cut

cross-section of the glass

By using the VHX…

The longstanding issue of needing 100% inspection is easily resolved. Users no longer need to cut out
samples, resulting in a decrease of wasted panels. Since the inspection does not require equipment to
come into contact with the products, there is no risk of scratches or other damage.

3
Case 03

Non-destructive testing on large parts

Before adopting • Macro images were obtained using a digital camera and getting as close to the target as possible
the VHX... • Cause was assumed based on the photos, but analysis was difficult due to insufficient profile information

Customer: Automotive parts manufacturer

Manufactures automotive door panels

Use replica gel to duplicate

the surface of the door panel

Measure the 3D profile of

the texture using the VHX

Observe
on the spot

By using the VHX…

The key point is to be able to perform non-destructive, precision measurements on site. By bringing the
VHX and a replication gel that can copy profiles at the micron level to the production site, multiple sections
can be analyzed on the spot.

4
Case 04

Observation and particle analysis on one device

Before adopting • Images were captured with a microscope and then uploaded to a separate computer for analysis
the VHX... • Dedicated software was not easy to use, limiting use to only trained personnel

Customer: Chemical manufacturer

Manufactures cosmetics

Measurement range is automatically

recognised from within the captured image.
Calculates particle count and area instantly

Other measurement functions

28 types of measurement are available, Extracted objects can be sorted by size or

including area, minimum/maximum diameter, other attribute for individual image
and circumference. Calculation results are observation. The foreign matter, fibre,
saved in a CSV file, ready for processing in metal, etc., can be easily identified from
Excel or other applications. the image.

By using the VHX…

Users can capture high resolution images and conduct particle analysis and other measurements with one
system.

5
Case 05

Turning your metallurgical microscope into a high-tech

analysis system.

Before adopting • Uneven objects or ones with height differences are difficult to bring into focus
the VHX... • High magnification limits the area that can be viewed

Customer: Tool manufacturer

Manufactures metal cutting tools

Connect the VHX digital camera

with a C-mount adapter.

A microscope that operators are

already familiar with can be used

Advanced analysis can be done

on the digital microscope

Capture fully-focused images Stitch images to see a large area at high magnification

By using the VHX…

While a metallurgical microscope provides high lens resolution and magnification, it often has problems
with focusing and field of view. However, by connecting it with a digital microscope, it can be used to its full
potential.

6
Case 06

Observing minuscule wear on the tips of a large gear that

cannot be placed on the microscope stage

Before adopting • Macro images were obtained using a digital camera and getting as close to the target as possible
the VHX... • Photos were out-of-focus or blurred, making it difficult to understand the overall picture

Customer: Automotive manufacturer

Manufactures gears for automobiles

Designed so that users can directly contact

the part being inspected and measured

Bring the lens

directly onto the gear

Using the same method...

The VHX is used to examine

prehistoric pottery unearthed from
archaeological sites

By using the VHX…

Unlike an ordinary optical microscope, objects that cannot or should not be destructively tested can be
easily observed with a simple touch of the lens.
With a large depth-of-field, images are never out of focus.
