Player Placement – How are teams formed?

• The skill centre program that Canada Soccer has created, is a program that is aligned with the best
principles of player development from around the World. The traditional model of team selection
(tryouts) in Canadian youth (U8-U12) soccer revolves around choosing a select number of players at a
specific moment in time based on their current performance level.
• The skill centre program does not have tryouts.
• Kids will be placed into groups of like-ability and the groups are fluid. This means that depending on how
players develop, they can be moved up or down to play in an environment that is best for their
development. This is a decision made by the head coach and WOSC technical staff.
• The name of the program in PowerUp is Summer Development Skill Centre Boys/Girls U10 (2014) and it
will be listed under 2024: U9-U12 Summer Development Skill Centre (2014-2011).
