► Resin
Resin is used to anchor bolts to the surrounding strata. When used with rebar, cablebolts, MCB conebolts or
the DS-Bolt, the resin creates a stiff reinforcement zone around the mine opening which resists ground
movement. The resin encapsulated bar provides immediate support with increased corrosion protection and
a long life span.
The resin cartridge has a two compartment construction. One Slow Setting Resin
is filled with a dark gray resin and the other contains a light heat seal
gray catalyst. The inner barrier keeps the resin separated from
the catalyst. Mixing the resin and catalyst components of the
cartridge creates a strong three dimensional polymer matrix

that is reinforced with limestone fillers. Most of the anchorage

strength is reached in 5 to 10 times the product’s gel time.

Resin is an exothermic reaction, so high temperatures will
speed up the reaction and slow temperatures will slow down
the reaction. Resin set times are based on a temperature of 13° C. A number of factors affect the performance
of resin systems such as rock strength and quality, resin cartridge diameter and both borehole and bar
diameters. Our technical services team would be pleased to recommend the correct combination to provide
the best possible results. We can provide in situ pull testing to further ensure the system is providing good
results.

► Installation Instructions
Resin
• Before drilling the first hole, check the following:
- Ensure that you have the correct resin cartridges
- Check that the bit size is of the correct diameter
• Evaluate the area where the next bolt will go:
- If the area is flat or on a point, drill to the mark
- If the area is in a crevice, you may want to drill a little shallow
• Drill a hole 2” (50mm) longer than the bar
- Over drill wastes time, bits and resin
- Drill wall holes at a slight incline to allow water to drain
• Insert the resin cartridges into the drill hole:
- If using a dual set time resin cartridges, insert the fast set cartridge first follow by the slow set
Note: If the resin doesn’t reach the toe of the hole, drill another hole
• Line the bolt up with the drill hole ensuring that it is in line with the slide
• Drive the bolt all the way in rotation until the plate just makes contact with the screen. The plate should be
slightly loose under the nut
• Go to the highest rotation speed available and continue spinning the bolt for 30 to 40 revolutions
• When mixing is complete, push the bolt up as far as possible
• Hold the bolt until the fast set resin cures
- Do not allow the bolt to sag out of the hole; damage to the partially gelled fast resin will result
- Allow more time if it is very cold
• Torque the bolt to apply tension
- Do not over torque the bolt
Note: Hold times vary according to the set time of the resin and temperature

• Install and grout the cable bolts and allow 18” (.5m) of cable protruding from the hole
• Daily Service - Unscrew the knurled cap from the auto gripper assembly. Remove the gripper from the
assembly. Disassemble the gripper and clean the teeth using pointed pick or knife. Clean the inside of the
auto gripper assembly. Grease the outside of the gripper and reinstall it into the auto gripper assembly.
Install the knurled cap
• Daily Service – Check the general condition of the hydraulic hoses etc to ensure they are in good condition
• Prior to proceeding to the next step, clean the cable of any mud, dirt or cement. This will ensure that the
cable grip teeth do not pack up with dirt. This will prevent cable grip slippage
• Install a washer plate followed by the cable grip on the cable bolt
• Check the air/hydraulic pump oil level. If low add HF 101 Enerpac oil to the full mark
• Clean filter element periodically by removing from filter, tapping on hard surface and blowing off with an
airgun
• Drain filter bowl at least once per work shift. If dirty, clean out and reassemble
• Check that the lubricator oil level is full. Fill using good quality air tool oil
• Connect the air/hydraulic power pack to mine air. Blow air through the hose prior to connecting to the
pump
• Insert the exposed cable into the front nose of the tensioning jack
• Turn the handle on the air operated hydraulic pump to one side and activate the foot operated pump until
the desired load is achieved (see calibration graph). The conversion factor is 400 psi/ton
• Turn the handle to the opposite side and fully retract the cylinder. The cylinder needs to be in the fully
retracted position to disengage the auto gripper from the cable
Note: The pump operates under high pressure (10,000 PSI). Use extreme care. If the internal gripper does not
grip properly, clean them more frequently. At some point they will need replacing.

Installation Instructions: Top Down Method
• Drill hole to the proper diameter and length
• 55mm typical
• Attach the 2 metal straps to the end holding device
• Attach a 3/4” grout tube using electrical tape at the end of the cable 6” below the end holding device. The
grout tube should be sufficiently longer than the cable to be easily accessible for grouting
• Insert the cable into the drill hole ensuring that sufficient cable protrudes from the collar if plating is
required
• Insert a wooden wedge at the bottom of the cable to hold the cable in place and to restrict the opening
• Attach the pump outlet hose to the grout hose and pump the hole from the bottom or toe of the hole down
with the grout mixture
• When the grout starts to come out of the hole, stop pumping and fold back the grout hose as close as
possible to the hole and tape the hose together. This will prevent the grout from siphoning from the hole

MCB33 Design
The MCB33 (Modified Cone Bolt for 33 mm holes) conebolt is a smooth bar threaded at one end, with a
forged cone and mixing blade at the other end. It is installed in specially formulated resin and is effectively
mixed by our patented conebolt design. The latest design consists of a plastic sleeve that is installed over the
shaft of the bolt and is intended to debond the resin from the bar thus allowing the cone to yield or plough
through the resin. This new debonding method is much more effective than the grease used in the original
design.

Modified Conebolt
Rockburst Support
Due to the rigidity of existing ground support systems such as rebar, the dynamic load due to seismic or
rockburst events often exceeds the loading capacity of both the bolts and/or the screen connection. The
MCB33 conebolt allows the bolt to yield or plough through the resin and thus absorbing the dynamic energy
of the event. Even though conebolts can yield, the rock support system can only be as strong as its weakest
link, which is often the bolt and mesh connection. One method of increasing the strength and dynamic
potential of the screen is adding rows of “Mine Mesh” strapping over the existing screen. The “Mine Mesh
Strap” is a 0/0 gauge screen 300 mm wide and comes in standard lengths of 2.13 m or 3 m. This is an effective
way of linking or lacing all the MCB conebolts together to effectively transfer the seismic energy to all the
surrounding bolts and absorbing the energy through controlled deformation. Strapping should always be
installed over top of any applied shotcrete.
Advantages
The conebolt can be installed using conventional equipment such as jacklegs, stopers or mechanized bolters
with a minimal amount of additional training to the crews. The same installation technique applies to all the
equipment mentioned.

MCB33
• Drill a 33 mm diameter hole 50 mm longer than the length of the conebolt. The hole should be slightly up
dip to allow the water to escape
• Ensure that the drill hole is free of debris
• Insert the required amount of 30mm resin cartridges into the hole
Note: Do not proceed to the next step unless the resin cartridge has reached the end of the drill hole. The
cone at the end of the bolt needs to be encapsulated in resin for the bolt to be effective
• Spin the MCB33 (modified conebolt) at full rotational speed while at the same time advancing the bolt
through the resin. Once the washer plate makes contact with the wall or back, continue spinning for an
additional 30 to 40 revolutions to complete the mixing process
• Once the resin has set, spin and break the dome nut or pin nut
• Torque the bolt to the predetermined load as specified by engineering

► VersaBolt™
The VersaBolt™ is designed for Static ground support conditions where standard rebar is too rigid. The bolt also
provides increased Dynamic capabilities for seismically active mines.
The steel used with the VersaBolt™ has extremely high elongation properties versus all other steel used with other
bolts types.
The end anchor has 4 deformations for increased mix-ability of the resin and to ensure that the bolt is well anchored
even in adverse ground conditions. Each anchor zone is designed to provide the full tensile anchorage capacity of the
steel. In the event of rock dilation or a seismic event, the two smooth sections of steel bar between the anchor zones
will stretch and allow for controlled deformation of the rock.
The bolt can have numerous design layouts depending on a mine’s individual needs. The first design has two anchors.
Section L1 and L2 are relatively stiff until the yield point of the steel. As the load increases beyond the yield point, the
high elongation properties of the steel allows for increased plastic deformation until the ultimate tensile strength of
the steel is reached. The stiffness of both the L1 and L2 zones can be modified by moving the intermediate anchor
towards or away from the threaded section.
The second design incorporates an L1 anchor zone next to the threads. This anchor has the full tensile capacity of the
steel and will not yield or move. It is normal to have increased rock dilation or deformation immediately adjacent to the
mine opening. The combined L1 threads and anchor creates a stiff zone that in the event of ground movement, the
load will be transferred to the middle fixed anchor thus mobilizing the full tensile capacity of the steel in zone L2. If
however movement occur further up the bolt beyond the middle anchor, the steel in that section will be mobilized as
well. The intermediate middle anchor can be moved inward or outward to increase or decrease stiffness in each section
of the bolt.
Dynamic Capacity
When subjected to seismic loading, the smooth steel sections of bar absorb the energy via steel stretch. Dynamic
stiffness can be modified by moving the various anchor points towards or away from the threaded end.
Dynamic testing at Canmet has shown that under dynamic loading, all anchors remained fixed.

Ventilation Pipe
Steel ventilation pipe can be used either in the standard positive pressure system or under negative pressure.
The latter method is ideally suited in situations where smoke from blasting operations needs to be
evacuated quickly, allowing for a prompt return to the work face.
When transportation cost to the mine or underground is a factor, ventilation pipe can be made to measure
on site, whether on surface or underground. Please discuss your particular needs with a Mansour Mining

Flange Pipe
• The flanged end of a pipe consists of a 1-½” x 1-½” x 1/8” angle fully welded 360° around its
circumference
• A ‘Vee Lock’ coupler, complete with an internal rubber gasket, is used to prevent air loss
Flangeless
• The flangeless pipe used a wide band coupler [12”], completed with an internal rubber gasket to prevent air
loss
• Metal screws are installed around the circumference of the flange to ensure that the pipe remains secure

The MMTI facility has its own spur line that allows ladles to be shipped right to our facility via the national rail
system. We will gauge any cracks, and perform a Non Destructive Examination to ensure that all gouges are
removed. All patches and bottoms required will be fitted. If a new bottom is required then new feet will be
fitted. Ladles will be sent for heat treat when required, and new trunnions will be installed. Quality assurance
is provided in compliance with ISO 9001 Quality Management System and CWB certification.
MMTI also manufactures Sampling Spoons in various sizes, and miscellaneous smelter products. Contact an
