3.5 Inserting the HV unit into the oil tester

ATTENTION!
Test the oil tester only at an ambient temperature of 22° C ± 4° C at
relative humidity of <60%!
The temperature of the HV unit is displayed on the operating unit during
testing of the oil tester.
Make sure that the temperature of the HV unit is 22° C ± 4° C.
When the temperature of the HV unit lies outside the permitted range (22º
C± 4° C). Switch on the air-conditioner in order to achieve the specified
measurement temperature range.
Condensation in the HV unit could adversely affect the working of the
device! To avoid formation of condensation and to ensure adherence to the
measuring temperature, observe the following:
If the HV units of the calibrator are stored or transported at a lower or
higher temperature, before use, they should be gradually (min. 3 hours)
brought to the measuring temperature.

Note:
The HV unit KA 75 - checks the accuracy of the output voltage of BAUR oil testers DPA 75 C

3.6 Turning on the calibrator

1. Ensure that your supply voltage matches the specifications on the rating plate of the
calibrator.
2. Insert the connecting cable of the HV unit with the plug into the connection socket of the
operating unit.

3. There is a mains connection on the back of the operating unit. Insert the mains cable into
the mains connection and connect the calibrator to the mains voltage.
4. There is a mains switch on the back of the operating unit. Use it to switch on the device.

ATTENTION!
After connecting the HV unit to the operating unit and after switching on the
calibrator, the serial number of the HV unit is displayed on the operating unit.
Check whether the displayed serial number and the serial number of the
HV unit are identical.
If the displayed serial number does not match the serial number on the
HV unit, no valid measurement results can be achieved. Check that you
have inserted the correct HV unit.

3.7 Turning on the oil tester

1. Ensure that your supply voltage matches the specifications on the rating plate.
2. Connect the oil tester to the mains voltage.
3. There is a mains switch on the back of the device. Use it to switch on the device.
4. Open up the operating unit. The control unit is the panel on which the control panel and
membrane keypad are located.
After the control unit is folded out, the device runs a self-test.

Checking oil devices

4 C HECKING OIL DEVICES

General information on the checking process

The checking is done through the menu item “Tools > Measurement with KA 100 C" or
“Tools > Measurement with KA 75 C".
For the checking, the oil tester builds up the voltage in 10 kV steps until the following output
voltage is reached:
 DPA 75 C: 75 kV
 DTA 100 C: 90 kV.
For each step, the output voltage is measured by the calibrator and oil tester. These voltage
values will be compared and deviations determined for each step.
Note: The following description refers to the checking of the oil testers DTA 100 C. The
checking of DPA 75 C is done in the same way.
Main menu > Tools

1. If you are checking a DTA 100 C, select the menu item “Measurement with KA 100 C" by
pressing the arrow keys.
If you are checking a DPA 75 C, the menu item “Measurement with KA 75 C” is
displayed. Select this menu item.
2. Click "Next" to confirm the entry.

16 / 28 822-143-1
Checking oil devices

3. Ensure that:

the HV unit is inserted in the oil tester,

the HV unit and the operating unit are joined together with the connecting cable,
 the calibrator is switched on.
4. Select "Start".

5. Enter the serial number of the HV unit.

6. Click "Next" to confirm the entry.
The measurement begins.

The calibrator determines the voltage for the current voltage step. The voltage value
is displayed on the calibrator.
The oil tester likewise determines the voltage for the current voltage step. You are
prompted for the voltage value determined by the calibrator on the oil tester display.

7. In the input field, enter the value displayed on the calibrator.

8. Click "Save" to confirm the entry.
With this, the device automatically begins the next measurement. You are prompted to
enter the voltage value determined by the calibrator for the next voltage step.
9. Repeat steps 7 - 8 for the next voltage steps.
When the device has completed the measurement, the measurement log is printed
automatically. The oil tester returns to the “Tools” menu.
In the measurement log, for each voltage step, following values are specified:

Voltage value that was measured by the calibrator,

Voltage value that was measured by the oil tester,
