LESSON PLAN FOR VERY YOUNG LEARNERS

DURATION: 30 MINUTES

LEXICAL AIM: Happy, Angry, Sad, Sleepy, Scared
LINGUISTIC AIM: How do you feel? I am happy. I feel angry.
METHODS: TPR, Direct Method
TECHNIQUES: Drama za on, using segmental and suprasegmental features, Repe on
MATERIALS:Video, Puzzle, Colored pots, Emo on S cks, Empty Face Handout, Play dough
ASSUMPTIONS: The students already know;
• Colors
• Ac on Words

AIMS: The aims of the lesson are;


• to develop cogni ve skills,
• To improve students drama za on skills
• To develop their logical thinking
• To improve their visual percep on

OBJECTIVES: By the end of the lesson, the students will be able to;
• Recognize target emo ons
• Classify emo ons
• Talk about their feelings
• Ask about other’s feelings

PROCEDURE
Gree ng: Hello kids how are you today?
Ss: Hello Teacher! Fine thanks and you?
T:I am happy guys!
Rou ne (2 min):
The teacher opens the rou ne song ( Red Light Green Light) to warm up the kids and energize
them for the lesson.
(1.47 seconds)

T:Let’s listen to our rou ne song guys.Everybody stand up.Let’s dance together.

Ac vity 1: Listening to the feelings song / Lively ac vity for Musical, Visual and Kinesthe c
Intelligences. (10 min)
The teacher wants students to stand up again and do the moves together.Then teacher plays the
video for two mes and does the dance moves simultaneously to give enriched input.
(2 minutes)

T:Okey guys are you ready for the new song?


Ss:Yes!!
T:Alright but before we start, everybody stand up please.Lets listen and do the moves together!
Teacher opens the video, sings the song and shows the moves to the kids.Students also do the
facial expressions by using this method they learn to show each feeling.
Then teacher shows the emo on s cks to the students and s mulate them to remember the
words by giving anecdotes from the song.Also all students shows the feelings.

T:Do you like our new song?
Ss:Yes!!
T:Let’s look at my friends guys.How they feel? Nasıl hissediyorlar?
Teacher shows happy kid.
Ss:Happy!
Teacher shows the angry kid.
T:Is she happy guys?
Ss:No
T:Hmm.. Is she sad?
Ss:No
T:Then lets ask her guys. Repeat a er me. How do you feel?
Ss:How do you feel!
Teacher acts.
T:I’m angry.

Ac vity 2:Classifying / Lively Ac vity for Kinesthe c and Visual Intelligences. (5-8 min)
Teacher line up the colored emo on pots.Each student come and pick an emo on s ck and puts it
in the right pot.
T:Okey guys are you ready to see my other friends?
Ss:Yes!!
T:Lets go then!
T:Here my friends! (Teacher shows the s cks) I want you to come and put them in the emo on
pots and show me the emo on. Okay?
Ss:Okay!!
T:I will do rst to show you guys.
Teacher shows the procedure to inform the students so that, the students feel secure and ready t
the the ac vity.
Teacher turns the s cks back and each students come and pick a s ck.Then they put it into pots
according to teacher’s direc ons.There are also faces on the pots.But before they put them they do
the facial expression and vocalize the word.
T:Okey ……. Pick a s ck please.
Student picks sleepy kid.

T:Show me the emo on.
Student does the facial expression and say the target word.(If the student can’t remember the
word, Teacher gives anecdotes from the song. ‘’How was the song? If you sleepy sleepy sleepy take
a nap.Right!’’)
Ss: Sleepy
T:Very good …….… .Then which pot? (Teacher shows the pots)
Ss:Blue!
Students put it into the blue pot.
Tt:Well done …… . Good Job! Who is the next?

Ac vity 3:Puzzle Making / Calming ac vity for Visual and Logical Intelligences. (10 min)
Teacher brings a trimerous puzzles of facial expressions.Teacher wants students to create a circle
and sit down.Teacher mixes the pieces of puzzle in the middle of the circle and wants students to
complete a face.Students work together to nd the correct pieces.There are eight puzzles
therefore, each student is going to have a puzzle.

T:Okey guys If you ready for our new ac vity clap your hands!
Ss clap their hands.
T:Now I want you to make a circle and sit down.
Students create a circle and sit down on the carpet.
T:I have face puzzles for you guys.Let’s mix them rst and create a face.
Students complete their puzzles and show it to the class.Also students say the name of the
emo on.
T:Are you done kids?
Ss:Yes!
T:Okey then show me your puzzle …….. .Is she happy or angry?How is she?
Ss:She is happy!

Intelligences
The teacher gives face picture handouts but the faces has no features like mouth or eyes.Students
use play dough to make their own facial expressions.Then they describe their work by using target
words.

T:Now I want you to make an emo on on your papers with your play doughs.Later we will describe
them.

Ac vity for the next lesson:Cube Game / Lively Ac vity for Kinesthe c and Visual Intelligences
Teacher brings a cube to the next lesson to make students recognize the terms again.There are ve
emo ons and a bonus side of the cube.If the bonus side comes up, children make the face they
want.Then they start the next lesson.The cube stays in the classroom.Teacher uses the cube from
me to me so that children do not forget it.
