The need for sustainable change

Sustainability challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity, environmental degradation, social exclusion, and loss of
biodiversity drive the need for change across society, influencing demands and expectations of clients and stakeholders.
Clients in the public and private sector are prompted to find solutions to mitigate risks or seize opportunities that derive from
new regulation or changes in stakeholder expectations and demands. This can both be defensive measures, to reduce the
negative impact of operations, or actions to seize new business opportunities and ways of operating.
• The knowledge, technical expertise and power to innovate is our most important contribution. Therefore, people, the employees and their
ability to deliver excellence, is at the core of the company. They work across our clients’ value chains and embed sustainability into all
their projects.

• In early stage engagement, they deliver strategic advisory, master planning, architecture and conceptual design services that guide the
overall sustainable direction and scope of the project. In their schematic and detailed design services that cover the translation of clients’
needs into physical assets, they work in an integrated way with sustainability, circularity, innovation and digital technologies to create
optimal solutions that deliver on expectations, while contributing to sustainable development. By using modern digital platform they
challenge existing standards to deliver more sustainable designs.

• In the later stages of their clients’ value chains – Production and construction, Operation and maintenance, and Decommissioning, disposal
and recycling – they help our clients to optimize utilization of their assets, extend lifetime, ensure up-time or minimise resource usage in
operations.

ENERGY STRATEGY AND PLANNING

Planning for the green transition

• One of the main challenges of the green transition is

to transform industries, cities and municipalities with
low carbon economies. A contributing factor is that
energy has been traditionally produced centrally and
then distributed to the energy consumers through
electricity grids and distribution systems, which
implies higher costs and less efficiency.
• A green future, on the other hand, asks for a
decentralized approach to energy that utilizes the
available resources as cost-efficiently as possible.
This includes a reduction of costs and the
optimization in the exploitation of renewable sources,
including a reduction in energy losses, both during
production and supply.
Industrial Energy

• Decarbonizing industry

• The global drive towards a low-carbon future brings challenges as well as

opportunities. It is vital that energy-intensive industries decarbonize while
remaining competitive during the transition. And it’s vital that the benefits and
savings are visible early in the process.

The decarbonization of industry will transform the way they produce goods,
minimizing resource and energy use, environmental impact and waste, all while
ensuring resilient and competitive operations run by a committed workforce.

• Process and energy optimization

• To industry, which consumes all types of energy on a large scale, energy efficient
designs of process and supply facilities, including the correct dimensioning of
electrical installations, are of vital importance for the business’ competitiveness,
both in relation to price and sustainability as well as for the company’s image.

• Ramboll’s energy optimization services in the process and electricity fields

encompass both industrial processes and the surrounding supply functions –
“utilities”.
Energy demand management

• Energy demand management in industrial companies is an effective tool for reducing

energy consumption and cost and for curbing the climate impact of private companies. A
comprehensive and holistic approach to the company’s energy consumption ensures that
the general policies and goals for the area are considered.

Strategic energy demand management

• Ramboll assists companies by uncovering strategic advantages of strengthening their
energy demand management. Through a dialogue with management and employees they
help discover the potential to reduce energy-related costs. Furthermore, a clear energy and
climate strategy improves the company’s green profile in the eyes of clients and business
partners.

Anchoring energy demand management

• Ramboll assists companies by uncovering strengths and weaknesses in the organization
with regards to energy management. They map formal and informal structures and on the
basis of this, they draw up proposals for how the energy demand management can be
anchored firmly in the existing organization. This way, all central areas of responsibility
are placed with the employees that have the skills required to handle the tasks.

Energy management tools and routines

• Ramboll offers services in developing and adapting tools and routines for companies to
support their business.

• A central tool is energy management, which ensures an ongoing collection and analysis of
data of the energy consumption in the different departments. Ramboll assists by mapping
the need for data and makes hardware and software recommendations for continuous
monitoring. We can also offer a tool that ensures that all new projects are optimized from
energy efficient and financial viewpoints.
Renewable Energy:

• Renewable energy is key to the

transition to a low-carbon
sustainable energy system.
Renewable sources of energy have
been the driver of much of the
growth in the global clean energy
sector for the past 25 years, and
today around 19% of the world’s
energy consumption comes from
renewable
