II. PROJECT SUMMARY

III. PROJECT BACKGROUND

Environment’s cleanliness is crucial for the health and wellbeing of humans

and other living organisms. Cleanliness must start from our own home, school,

institutions, and communities. When individuals and communities are both

responsible in keeping the environment clean, it can help promote a healthy and

sustainable environment. Despite the discourse on cleanliness, there are still

people who are irresponsible and violates regulations about it.

Recognizing that waste and litter is an issue is the first step toward making a

community cleaner and more sustainable. Disposing waste properly must be

observed to maintain a clean and safe community environment. The proper

management of waste is crucial not only for our health but it is also important to

prevent environmental pollution. It can be achieved through cleaning activities or

cleanup projects. The participation of the residents in a barangay, most especially

the youth, can help our surrounding and make themselves have a stronger

connection in the environment, helping them adopt different sustainable

practices.

The involvement in cleanup initiatives fosters a positive impact on the

community and instill a sense of responsibility. Conducting activities like picking

up litter and organizing waste disposal in every barangay in a community can

change a lot. According to Sunstar (2019), barangays can implement measure for

protecting our environment because in keeping a community clean, lots of the

implementation of different environmental program falls upon it. However, its

function to protect the environment have been forgotten. The canals are clogged,

there are trashes in different areas of the barangay, and there is lack of proper

waste management.

The project ‘’Brightening Pathways: A Community Clean-up Project’’ within

Sitio Putol, Barangay Taysan, San Jose Batangas focused on the walkways

around the area and beside the school to maintain cleanliness and consider the

health and safety of the students and residents. This project shows the

importance of waste management and having broader knowledge about the

environmental impact of community waste.
