III. COURSE DESCRIPTION


This course provides an introduction to the methods and techniques employed in criminological research. Students will examine
various research methodologies, ethical considerations, and the application of both qualitative and quantitative approaches in
criminology. The course will also delve into current trends in research, including the use of Chat GPT technology, proper citation
practices, the peer-reviewed journal process, and the unique context of criminological research in the Philippines.

A graduate of BS Criminology shall be able to:
conduct criminological research on crimes, crime causation, victims, and offenders to include deviant behavior;
internalize the concepts of human rights and victim welfare;
demonstrate competence and broad understanding of law enforcement administration, public safety, and criminal justice;
utilize criminalistics or forensic science in the investigation and detection of crime;
apply the principles and jurisprudence of criminal law, evidence, and criminal procedure; and
ensure offenders welfare and development for their reintegration to the community.

average of the Prelim Grade (PG), Midterm Grade
Class Participation (Seatwork, 20% (MG), a Semi-finals (SF) and Final Grade (FG) for the
Recitation, Written works, Projects) course.
Assignment 20% Final Grade (SFG): (PG* .10) + (MG*.30) + (SFG
Periodic Exam 40% *.20) + (FG*.40). The Semestral Final Grade should
be rounded off to two decimal places.
