Commercial Certificate

Far 61.133 states that as a commercial pilot you may act


as pilot in command of an aircraft for compensation or
hire and you may carry persons or property for
compensation or hire provided you meet the
qualifications that apply to the specific operation.
Common Carriage
Any operation for compensation or hire in which the
operator holds itself out, by advertising or any
other means, as willing to furnish transportation
for any member of the public.
Private carriage does not involve holding out.

Under part 91, you may not engage in common


carriage.

Flag Operation
Any scheduled operation to any point outside the
U.S. conducted in a turbojet-powered airplane or
an airplane which has a passenger-seat
configuration of more than 9 seats or
a payload of more than 7,500 pounds

Commuter Operation
Any scheduled operation conducted in a non-turbojet
powered airplane having a maximum passenger-seat
configuration of 9 seats or less and a maximum
payload capacity of 7,500 pounds or less.
A commuter operation must be scheduled with a
frequency of at least 5 round trips per week on at
least 1 route according to published flight
schedules.
On-Demand Operation
Any operation for compensation or hire which is one
of the following:

a passenger-carrying public charter where the


departure time and location, as well as the
arrival location are specifically negotiated
with the customer.
a common-carriage operation using an airplane
(including turbojet-powered) having a
passenger-seat configuration of 30 seats or
less and a payload capacity of 7,500 pounds or
less.
a private carriage operation conducted with
an airplane having a passenger-seat
configuration of less 20 or a payload capacity
of less than 6,000 pounds.
a scheduled operation with a frequency of
less than 5 round trips per week conducted with
a non-turbojet-powered airplane with a maximum
of 9 passenger seats and a maximum payload
capacity of 7,500 pounds.
a cargo operation conducted with an airplane
having a payload capacity of 7,500 pounds or
less.
