Frame Construction Path

BY GURNEET BRAR
Measuring the photo to put inside
• The photo I was planning on using for my frame was a photo of me
and a few of my cousins at a waterpark. The size of the photo was 5 x
7 inches.
Getting wood cut to size
• My wood was supposed to be 1 inch thick and 2 inches wide, but Mr.
Spiers cut my wood with an extra inch to the width. The frame was 8
x 10 inches
Routering the wood

• The next step after getting the wood is to

router it. You must set the blade and fence in
the perfect spot to get a good cut. A router
gives you neat corners and edges. The PPE for
this machine is ear protection and glasses.
Cutting the wood

• Using a miter saw, you will then cut the wood

into your 4 pieces. This step was a little
complicated for me as the edges where the
wood blocks meet confuse me. First you need
to make sure the miter saw is turned to a 45
degree angle. Then you must make sure the
wood stop is set to the measurement you need
it to be using a ruler. Then you need to cut the
corners of the wood I didn't need. And then cut
my wood, these 2 steps repeated a couple of
times. The safety PPE for this machine is
glasses and ear protection
Gluing the wood pieces
together

• Using tape and wood glue, I evenly spread the

glue with towel paper on to the diagonal cuts
on the wood pieces and then put them
together. Using a band clamp, I made sure the
wood was kept together nice and tight, so the
glue dries nicely and the wood glues together
properly.
Sanding

• The next day, when the glue was dry and the
wood was together, I was able to sand the
frame so I had a smooth finish, First I used the
belt sander to sand off the remaining glue and
get the frame smooth. Then I used a palm
sander as an addition to getting the wood
smooth.
Finishing

• I was supposed to do splines as well to make

my frame stronger but also add a cool design,
but I ran out of time as I wasn't at school for a
few days. So, to finish I used a wood finish. I
applied the finish with a paper towel and after
the finish I put out the paper, so it doesn't
catch fire.
