General Mental Ability (GMA) remains the single most powerful predictor of job performance
and career success - after more than a century of research in the field of work psychology.
Since its creation in 2009 Matrigma has provided an effective method for identifying individual
potential in personnel selection and has grown to become a popular and internationally
renowned GMA test. Assessio now proudly presents an innovative and technologically
advanced version of Matrigma which provides a fully reliable and accurate GMA measurement
in only 12 minutes.

Candidate engagement
Offering user-friendly and concise assessment solutions that keep the candidates engaged
throughout the selection process has become essential in an increasingly candidate-driven
job market. Adaptive Matrigma addresses the need for shorter assessments and an enhanced
candidate experience without losing any of the reliability or accuracy of the original version.

Adaptive format
Adaptive Matrigma is based on a new and advanced mathematical model, where each
successive item is selected based on a summation of the test-takers previous responses as
well as other item-specific criteria. Unnecessary and redundant items are excluded, as the
respondent’s maximum level of capacity is evaluated and established throughout the test
session.
Same but different
The adaptive and classic versions of Matrigma have a great deal in common. They are based on
the same items, they have the same output, the same accuracy, and generate the same report.
However, there are some differences.
The time limit however, functions differently. Instead of a total time limit of 40 minutes Adaptive
Matrigma has a one minute per item time limit and the respondent can only move forward
through the assessment. There is no fixed number of items per test session, as the number of
items will vary based on the candidate’s response speed.
Another noticeable change is the perceived level of difficulty of the items. Each test session
adapts to the candidate by selecting items based on previous responses in order to quickly
determine the individual’s maximal level of capacity.
The adaptive version does not make use of norm groups the same way the Classic version
does. This is due to Adaptive Matrigma utilizing a different measurement model, so-called
Item Response Theory (IRT). Its advanced algorithm incorporates the results of over 100 000
Matrigma tests worldwide as well as other item specific criteria. You can read more about IRT in
the technical manual for Adaptive Matrigma.

Can I use both versions?

Absolutely. Just decide which version you want to use for your selection process, and proceed
as usual with both test administration and result interpretation. However, you cannot mix both
versions in the same project.

Languages
Both Adaptive and Classic Matrigma can be completed in 28 languages and interpretive reports
can be generated in 24 languages.

Responsive format
Adaptive Matrigma is available on mobile devices. Always keep in mind that a power test
such as Matrigma requires a non-distractive environment if it is to result in an accurate
measurement of GMA. This can be difficult to guarantee when allowing the use of smartphones.
We have therefore added a feature giving you as an administrator control over this choice.
