SURAT MARRIOTT HOTEL

FIRE EVACUATION DRILL REPORT

On 12th Augut 2021, at around 1515 hrs, an evacuation drill was conducted for the Hotel staffs. In which
manually a smoke detector was activated at Bakery area near Hotel Main store room by Loss Prevention
Manager- Ravi Sharma and kept 1 HK Staff Prabhuram acting as casualty, the fire was detected on the fire
panels in at security control room.

Drill Critique:-

 Around 1515 hrs. Smoke detector was activated at Bakery by Loss Prevention Manager- Ravi , same
was acknowledge by the fire panels at the Security Control Room. Same time HK staff Prabhuram
was kept in the bakery acting as casualty and as per Crisis Management Plan procedure Engg/LP
shift In-charge were sent to the spot and confirmed the fire. As the fire was not able to extinguished
and uncontrollable LP Manager decided to inform the Core Fire Fighting Team of the hotel.

 At 1529 hrs LP Manager informed the CFF Team through the Crisis Management Team WhatsApp
group and AYS operator informed the team through phone call as well.

 At around 1535 hrs CFF team assemble at the Crisis Management Center located at Command
ground floor.

 As fire has been confirmed and it was uncontrollable Crisis Team Leader Mr. Amit Mehta, Area
Director and General Manager had took a decision for evacuation of hotel employees. And all the
Core firefighting team were sent as per there Job role assigned for Crisis Emergency Plan.

 In the meantime ALPM Brijesh started announcing on Megaphone about fire evacuation.
 All hotel employees had used define fire egress.
 First Aid kit, Wheel Chair, stretcher and heat defibrillator for injured staff had been brought to the
evacuation point by the Loss Prevention Team.
 One of associate was rescue from the spot by the Core firefighting team and was sent to the hospital.
 Below are the numbers of the staff participated in the drill actively is as follows
 Engineering :- 04
 Kitchen : - 08
 Finance :- 05
 LP :- 06
 FO :- 03
 HR :- 02
 Admin :- 02
 F&B :- 08

 The Engineering teams were positioned for handling the pump rooms and Boiler Room,
 At around 1550 hrs the last staff reached at the evacuation point later roll call was taken by
respective departments and after a small brief by LP Manager Ravi Sharma the drill was called off at
around 1600 hrs.

Things that went well in the Drill:

 Emergency Response Team immediately responded at the site of fire with the extinguishers (Both LP
& Engineering without delay).
 Evacuation was completed within 15 minutes.
 All Fire egress were cleared.
 Some the departments were brought their attendance register.
 First-aid boxes, Wheel Chair, heart defibrillator & stretcher were brought at the evacuation point.
 Staffs responded very quickly.

Things that went wrong:

 There was no common attendance register with HR which need to keep at the time office.
 Search Light was not working properly.
 Mega phone was not working properly.
 Telephone not working at both the Crisis Management center
 Staff which was a physically challenged was not assisted by their coworkers and help them to inform
about the emergency and help them to evacuate the premise.

Follow up actions:-

 Regular training session needs to be done for the associates.


 More briefing for the CMT team.
 Needs to do CFFT training for new jonnies in the hotel.
 Required Mega Phone for Emergency.
 Proper search light required for emergency
 Common attendance register required at the time office.
 Digital phone required at Command Center
