etc); displaying simplified Primary Vehicle Indications (just limited to NF/NR indications
and Power Index that includes First Limit Indicator) and integrating management of radio
navigation and mission equipment through Enhanced Control Display Units (ECDUs)
based on touch screen technology (see below).

1.2.2 Transmission Run-Dry 33 minutes

Based on the renowned AW heritage and design
capability, an evolution of the AW139 and AW189
design has been applied to the AW169 allowing the
engineering, proof and test of a 33 minutes run-dry
capable transmission.
Clear indications are provided to the pilots in the RFM,
stating that the run-dry capacity of 33 minutes is
achieved when torque is equal or below 55%. This
means flying at cruise speed exceeding 100 knots ate
MTOW for typical operational altitudes.

5 MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION PROGRAMMES
5.1 AW169 MAINTENANCE CONCEPT
AW169 Scheduled Maintenance Program has been developed and resulted from the Maintenance
Review Board (MRB) Process, aimed to harmonize the tasks and inspection intervals with a cost-
effective approach and using MSG-3 analysis as a tool to determine the scheduled maintenance
requirements.
In particular, periodicity of the inspection program has been established by the MSG-3 process
based on the usage parameters (e.g. Rotorcraft Flight Hours, Rotorcraft Landings, Calendar Time
etc.), whichever is most suitable to determine the degree of deterioration and/or technical condition
of systems and airframe rotorcraft operation.
AW169 Scheduled Maintenance Program is based on 400 Flight Hours (FH)/1 year (Y) interval,
with also few tasks at 50 FH (Visual Checks, General Visual inspections, Functional Checks) and
at 200FH (General Visual Inspections, Operational Checks). Out of phase inspections (i.e. at each
engine removal etc.) will be also included in the AW169 Scheduled Maintenance Program.

The Scheduled Maintenance tasks identified during the AW169 MRB Process are included and
described in the AW169 MRB Report (MRBR). The first AW169 MRBR (issue A) has been
approved by EASA and FAA in 2015.
The initiative
■ is aimed to develop and continuously optimize the AW169 maintenance programme
through a living MRB approach.
■ leveraged the extensive collaboration of a panel of AW Operators providing the invaluable
in-service experience, Aviation Authorities and major Suppliers.

The AW169 takes the advantage of having the MSG-3 method applied in his entirety, both to the
AW169 airframe and to Pratt & Whitney PW210A Engines, in order to optimize the alignment and
effectiveness of inspection tasks and intervals.

Maintenance requirements that are detailed in Chapter 5 of AW169 Technical Publications are
essentially established based on the Maintenance Review Board Report.
In addition to the standard / extended maintenance programme developed at first certification, a
phased maintenance program will be developed for specific mission profiles requiring high
operational availability such as offshore and emergency medical service applications.

For main dynamic components of the AW169, such as Main, Intermediate and Tail Gearboxes, the
Time Between Overhaul (TBO’s) is set at 6000 FH / 10 Years since the first certification.
Life limits, discard time and overhaul requirements will be minimised for the AW169 helicopter
airframe at maturity.

Easy accessibility is granted through:
■ Maintenance step normally stowed and secured into a fuselage recess by means of
latches, and once opened it become a support for ground personnel to reach the upper
deck.
■ Maintenance step stowed on the upper deck area for easy accessibility of the upper deck
during maintenance / inspection operations.

AW169 Technical Publications Set is developed in accordance with latest issue of international
specification S1000D and will be delivered as Interactive Electronic Technical Publications (IETP).

Leveraging on AW Family Concept, Tools & Ground Support Equipment required for AW169 have
been designed pursuing modularity and commonality with AW139 and AW189, resulting in a Cost-
effective approach aimed at lowering initial acquisition costs for Customers and to maximise usage
experience across AW Platforms.

5.2 AW169 HUMS
AgustaWestland developed in-house the AW169 Health and Usage Monitoring (HUMS) system
and Ground Station, leveraging the 30+ years of experience matured on several platforms:
■ The AW169 is fitted with a HUMS system meeting the requirements of FAR/JAR 29. The
system and the related support is fully compliant with CAP 753 Helicopter Vibration Health
Monitoring (VHM) and OGP guidelines for continuous operation, minimizing time required
for data analysis and release to service in intensive operation environments (50s for an
hot download – only Vibration Monitoring).
■ Data download and analysis is available with engine running at any regime and in two
modalities: Quick Assessment (only TVM data for quick helicopter dispatch – max 2/3 min
required), available also with engine running, or Full Download (without or with ESUM – 8
or 12 minutes required)
■ The Automatic Anomaly Detection (AVDM) analyses sets of signals through multivariate
algorithm and quickly provides results customized on the specific helicopter, based on
colour code (green, yellow, red) for TVM (Transmission Vibration Monitoring) and SVM
(Structure Vibration Monitoring) analysis. Close Trend & Far Trend modes controlling also
under-threshold events is also available.
■ The HeliwiseTM system developed by AgustaWestland is Web based tool with online
upload (updates automatically available to the customers, when connecting – no need of
CDs, Technical Bulletins etc). The automatic email system acknowledges data download
and provides a quick resume of main evidences and a quick connection to the relevant
information analysis. Offline modality is also available allowing to save 30/40% of the time
required Online thanks to the FH backlog recorded in local environment, sufficient to
provide analysis and evidences of the latest trends.
■ One single & simple interface on the helicopter manages data downloading (Data Transfer
Device with internal Hard Disk, equipped with SD, PCMCIA, USB, Ethernet, Wifi). The Wifi
interfaces with any laptop provided with HeliwiseTM software.
■ Exceedance Usage Monitoring for helicopter systems integrated in the HUMS analysis
(including BIT for avionics components or any sensor information coming from electro
mechanical equipment onboard, if equipped with self-monitoring capability and connected
