TROPICAL DESIGN: FINAL EXAM

PROBLEM: Study the figures and dimensions shown below. Convert the house into a more energy-
efficient one which at the same time provides comfort to the occupants by applying passive cooling
strategies that consider mainly the air movement and the sun. The house is enveloped by 4-inch thick
concrete walls that are finished with fiber cement sidings. To enhance passive cooling, windows may
be changed in location, quantity, size, and type. The roof type and materials as well as the ridge
height may be changed also. In a section drawing or drawings, show and label the passive cooling
features applied.

Requirements: Sketches of

FLOOR PLAN (Show the North direction and air circulation flow through openings.)

SECTION DRAWING OR DRAWINGS (Show and label the features for passive cooling.)

DETAIL DRAWING/S (If necessary.)

Directions: Draw each drawing requirement on a short bond paper. Drawings may not be drawn to
scale but observe proportion based on the given dimensions of the building and its rooms. If drawn to
scale, choose a scale that is appropriate to the size of the paper. If detail drawings are added, they
may be placed in the same papers with the floor plan and section drawing/s.
