 CHAPTER 1

THE PROBLEM AND THE BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

INTRODUCTION

Being a working student is a common trend in this generation, a lot of

students are doing this because of their specific reasons and the common reason
why they are working and studying at the same time is poor financial support
given by their parents that's why they need to balance everything especially their
time to provide their needs, in that way they can help themselves and also they
will be able to help their parents by decreasing their expenses at home.

Watts and Pickering (2000) suggested that skills learned at the job are
transferable, and students who have a job are more employable due to their
development of organizational and time management skills. (watts and pickering
2000)

This study focuses on the effects of working while studying in senior high
school, because we want to know and also all of the person who will read this the
struggles and hard work of the senior high school students. we will be able to
determine how family, time management, class activities, and academic
achievements affect the working students.

Working students are dissatisfied with the amount of time they are able to
dedicate to studying; between 30% and 60% of the students surveyed in the
2018
Eurostudent study indicated they are dissatisfied with the amount of time they
have for studies. Employed students feel pressured and experience a sense of
being pulled in two directions (Watts and Pickering 2000).

The purpose of this study is to make a call for those students who are able
to go to school without worrying about their everyday needs and have parents
that can afford everything they need, this will make them realize how lucky they
are for having a good life and to be thankful. Also, for the students who are doing
their
best to strive for their dreams, especially our working students, we want them to
know that they are inspiring everybody and to make them proud of themselves
because despite all the challenges and obstacles they are facing everyday they
still keep striving and never losing hope to achieve their dreams.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study intended to find out the Effects of being a Working SHS Students
of Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Colleges in Their Academic Performance in Year
2023-2024:

Specifically, this study seeks to answer the following questionnaire

1. What are the advantages and disadvantages of being a working student?

2. How does working shs students manage their time?

3. What is the main reason why so many students decided to work while
studying?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

Working while studying can pose significant time management challenges

for SHS students. Balancing work responsibilities with academic commitments
can lead to limited time for studying, completing assignments, and participating in
extracurricular activities. This may result in decreased academic performance if
students are unable to allocate sufficient time for their studies.

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION

This study is limited only to the effects of being a working SHS students of
Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Colleges in their academic performance during the
academic year 2023-2024
