B. MOTIVATION
Before we proceed to our main topic,
let’s have an activity first. In this activity I
will give you a piece of paper by group,
written on it is a title of story, folktale, or
legend that is included in The Tale of the
Philippines. I will let you analyze and
guess where does the title belongs
to ,based from the summary that is
posted on the board.

captivates those who catch a glimpse of
her. One day, a young man becomes

approach her. However, when he does,
the maiden mysteriously disappears into
the water, leaving only the fragrance of
flowers behind. The man, filled with
longing, returns to the river day after day,
hoping to see her again.

beginning, Bathala, the supreme deity,
desired to create beings in his image.
Bathala decided to create the first man,
Malakás (Strong), and the first woman,

maintain harmony with nature. Malakás
and Maganda began to fulfill their roles,
and from their descendants came the
diverse Filipino people.

Upset and distraught, he searches high
and low for the precious ring but is unable
to find it. His friend, a bird catcher, offers

rewards the bird catcher for his
assistance.

1.Begin by discussing the importance of


Philippine literature and its role in
preserving culture and heritage.
-Philippine literature is a vital tool for
preserving the rich cultural identity of the
Filipino people. Through stories, poems,
essays, and narratives, the unique
customs, traditions, beliefs, and values of
the nation are documented and passed
down to future generations.

2. Introduce Zoilo Galang as an important


figure in Philippine literature and provide
a brief background about him.

So now let us move on to our formal


discussion. Our topic for today is about
The Tales of the Philippines by Zoilo
Galang.
First ,let us discuss who is Zoilo Galang.

ZOILO GALANG
• Born on June 27, 1895, in Bacoor,
Philippines, made significant contributions
to Filipino literature, becoming the first
Filipino novelist to write in English.
• He was a Filipino novelist and folklorist
•He began his career as a "takigrapo," a
typist or stenographer. Later, he pursued
legal studies at Escuela de Derecho,
graduating in 1919. Galang continued his

academic journey, taking special courses
at the University of the Philippines in
1925 and pursuing further studies in
Literature at Columbia University.
•He received his education at Bacoor

Elementary School and Pampanga High


School. Galang showed early aptitude,
learning typing and stenography in both
English and Spanish.
