The Zulian Gaita, or simply


gaita, is a musical genre
from the state of Zulia,
Venezuela.
In some regions of
Venezuela, it is related to
Christmas. But currently it
is a genre that is performed
all year round in the
country.
In 2014 it was declared a
heritage asset of cultural
and artistic interest in
Venezuela.

Patacones: It consists of
slices the size of the same
banana, which are fried on
both sides. The filling can
be meat, chicken, with
various salads and sauces.
It is considered fast food in
Zulia.
Bollos Pelones: It consists
of preparing stewed meat or
chicken and once cooked, it
is made into a medium ball
and cooked in boiling
water. Once the sphere is
cooked, it is bathed in a
thick tomato sauce, which
is seasoned with chives,
garlic, onion and spices.
Mojito en Coco: It consists
of the combination of
coconut and fish. In
addition, it is seasoned with
various dressings that give
it an exotic touch and
plenty of flavor.
Yoyos de Plátano: It
consists of strips of ripe
banana, which are
accompanied by ham,
cheese, chicken, lettuce,
tomato, shredded meat,
among others.

As one of the most


important religious
celebrations in the state of
Zulia, it is held every
November 18 in
commemoration of the
Virgin of Chiquinquirá,
where a fair is held where
serenades are played.
Other important festivities
are the Fiestas in honor of
San Benito, in honor of the
miraculous black saint.
They take place on
December 27 and January
6. Processions and festivals
are held around the saint.
