Steps of Planning a Lesson (By Dr KK)

A model Lesson plan should include the following components:


TITLE PAGE
The title page of the lesson plan should include the following details

(The title page should be designed in an attractive manner. Colored and well-decorated pages
may be used)
INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES
Based on the topic to be taught, some clear and measurable objectives should be given. The
format will be
After studying this lesson, the students will be able to;
 Define…………..
 Give examples of ………………..
 Draw diagram of …………………
 Differentiate between…………….
A.V. AIDS
The Audio visual aids which are to be actually used in teaching the topic should be mentioned
here, which may include Charts, models, real objects, flash cards etc. The aids which are not
used should not be mentioned. The format will be as:
The Instructional Aids required for the lesson will include Writing Board, Marker, Maps,
Charts and Flash Cards
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
The classroom should be physically managed for students to be faced properly. For example
seating arrangement may be changed if needed. Weak and mischievous students may be seated at
the front. Whatever related to physical management of the class should be mentioned here.
TIME MANAGEMENT
Time management is necessary for utilizing the allocated time period effectively. Here dividing
the given time duration is mentioned. For instance
Time will be divided as follows:
Total time: 40 Minutes
Preparation: 5 Minutes
Presentation: 20 Minutes:
Practice and activities: 10 Minutes:
Production and assignments: 5 Minutes.
METHOD OF TEACHING
The method of teaching utilized actually should be mentioned here. Any method or approach like
lecture, demonstration, discussion, inductive, deductive etc. should be given. For example:
A mixed method will be used while teaching the given topic.
PREPARATION/PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE TEST
In order to prepare student for new topic, some easy questions will be asked.
The questions are generally asked from the knowledge previously gained related to the
present new topic.

DECLARATION OF THE TOPIC


After preparing the students using their previous knowledge, the new topic is to
be declared as.
“Dear Students! Today we are going to discuss about …..”
“Topic of the day is……”
“Today I am going to teach you …..”
PRESENTATION
It is the actual step of teaching the planned lesson. Here the method mentioned is
followed and the topic is taught.
Summary (here a summary of the topic through the given method is mentioned,
including Introduction, Definitions, Meanings, Concepts, Examples etc.
It can be given in a paragraph or two whereby the complete lesson is to be
summarized.
PRACTICE
In order to make the topic fully understood, there may be some drill while giving class
work to the students, calling them on board or exercising the difficulties. The focus will
be to involve the students in the activities mentioned.
PRODUCTION
The last step of the lesson is the production step. It is actually an evaluation of overall
class, teaching and analysis of the achievement of the objectives being designed for a
lesson.
In order to evaluate the achievement of the objectives, some questions from taught
lesson will be asked as:
