A law career is the most prestigious career in the world. Those who are studying law
are referred to as a lawyer by friends and family on a regular basis. In fact, many
students choose to get a degree to pursue a career as an advocate. However, being
a lawyer is only one of the many things a law graduate can do. In Bangladesh, a law
graduate has great career prospects.
The main issue in this career is that he has to struggle in the early stage of a legal
career. When he will gather a few experiences in his profession, he will start loving
his profession. So patience is the most important in this field. Another most important
thing in this field is that he shouldn’t look for money in the early stage of this legal
profession. Instead of looking for money, he should start looking for experience. If he
gathers experience money will come automatically. As an advocate, one can have
these opportunities given below.
1. Judge: An extremely prestigious career of an advocate is to become a judge
by appearing and passing the Bangladesh Judicial Service exam. Every year,
large group of law students appear for this highly competitive exam and very
few are selected.

2. Academician/Researcher: The most option within academia would be a law

teacher, but this isn’t only choice. He may choose to work with national and
international research organizations and can even be an independent
researcher.

3. Development Work (NGOs): An advocate can join in any social development

NGOs which work for the welfare of the society. Most NGO’s work with the
legal rights of different classes of people on national and global levels.
Unbodies, USAID, BRAC, Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust, Ain O
Salish Kendra are some popular examples.

4. Corporate Employee: Most established have a dedicated legal branch that

regularly hires new advocates. If any advocate is more comfortable with the
corporate branches of law, this is a great option for him.

5. Consultant: Almost all establishments need some form of legal advice, and
therefore consultancy is always a great option for an advocate. The attractive
part of consultancy is that an advocate may choose to do it alongside his
permanent job. It’s certainly flexible but a definite level of expertise is
expected.

6. Politician: Law and politics are intricately linked, and it is very important for a
good politician to have a strong understanding of legal issues. So If any
person becomes an advocate before fully joining politics, this becomes extra
benefit for him.

7. Journalist: If writing is our strength, we can also opt to pen news articles on
legal issue or report on the contemporary legal developments as a journalist.
If any joins journalism after becoming advocate, he knows well what to write
and whatnot. He can go for the public wellbeing also.

8. Public Interest Advocate: If any advocate feels strongly about the rights of
the people and wants a proactive role in bringing about socio-legal reforms,
he can be a rights advocate.
9. Civil Servant: As an advocate, one may opt to pursue a career as a civil
servant. While he has to go through rigorous testing in order to qualify, once
he gets selected.

10. Mediator/Negotiator: Mediator, Negotiator and arbitration are a recent but

recent but exciting and promising field for any advocate, If the area sparks our
interest, we can expect a challenging and educational experience as a
mediator.

CONCLUSION
Success doesn’t come to any work without proper hard work and dedication.
Sometimes it takes longer time to eat the hard work we do days after days. But If the
dedication is there. Fruit will come one day. An advocate career has also ups and
downs. During his bad time, he has to be patience and stick to his honesty. Once
success starts to come, he may not have to step back in his life. An advocate has to
keep the respect for the law and orders he goes through his life and do works for the
welfare of the society.
