CREATIVE WRITING

“Creative Writing” is called the “art of constructing things up”.

“Creative Writing” is called the “art of constructing things up”. It's any writing that doesn't follow
the traditional skilled, print media, tutorial or technical types of literature, usually known by a stress
on narrative crafts, character development and therefore the use of literary tropes or with
numerous traditions of poetry and literary study. It's wherever the aim of writing is to specific
thoughts, feelings and emotions instead of to feed information.

PURPOSES

- Its major purpose is to express one’s thoughts, feelings and emotions.


- To share a person’s anecdote in an entertaining way upon the making.
- To write in a vivid imagination in order to express the thought or feeling a writer can share.
- Writers get the opportunity to learn about reality of humanity through storytelling and poetics.
- The writer is expected to write fascinating poetry, drama, fiction or creative nonfiction where
wonders can take place.
- To arouse the imagination and emotion of the readers.
- To evoke intellectual and emotional responses from the readers.

- Self-expression is its primary benefit. What one has read or seen, heard, smelt, tasted or felt.
- It is a great way to express what you feel as it frees one’s mind and comforts the soul.

FORMS OF CREATIVE WRITING

1. Fiction
o It is a narrative that springs from the imagination of the writer, though it may be based on
actual events and real people.
o The writer shapes his or her narrative to capture the reader’s interest and to achieve desired
effects.
o Major types: Novels and Short Stories.
2. Creative Nonfiction
o It is a prose writing about real people, places and events.
o It is largely concerned with factual information although the writer shapes the information
according to his or her purpose and viewpoint.
o Major types: Biographies, memoirs and essays.
3. Poetry
o It is a language arranged in lines.
o It attempts to re-create emotions and experiences like other forms of creative writing.
o It is condensed and suggestive than prose because it does not include the kind of detail or
explanation but tends to leave more to the reader’s imagination.
o It requires more work on the reader’s part to unlock the meaning.
4. Drama
o It is a writing that develops plot and character through dialogue and action.
o It is a literature in play form.
o It is meant to be performed by actors and actresses who appear on stage, before radio
microphones or in front of television or movie cameras.
