Assalamualaikum and good evening to everyone.

So, all of you are here because I would like to brief you about this online scrabble competition.

Before we begin, I hope all of you are familiar with the rules of scrabble.

How many of you here are still not familiar with the scrabble rules?

As today’s time is quite limited, I will only explain how we will conduct the game through this online
platform. Later, if any of you would like to know more about scrabble rules, I will provide you with the
rules and regulations in PowerPoint slides so you could refer to them. Once I’m done with it, I will upload
it to the telegram group over your mid-sem break.

Ok. Moving on, on the day of the competition, 1 team need to bring their laptop or any suitable gadget.
You can use your iPad or tablet as well. But you cannot use your phone as it is hard for my facilitator to
assist you on that day.

All teams shall be equipped with the following during the competition on 14 th of March 2023

a. Functionable laptop or electronic gadget

b. Stable network connection.

The Organizer shall not be responsible for the failure on the part of participants in using a
functional laptop or electronic gadget and stable network connection.

All participants shall create an account on Woogles and set their username as their team’s name,
beginning with kmmEC followed by your team name. this is what I will brief you on, today.

You will be required to play 3 sets of games. There will be 2 rounds which are the first round and the final
round.

The team that scores the most marks in all of the 3 sets of the game will be the winner and you will be
moving to the final round. 16 winning teams will proceed to the final round where 5 teams with the
highest points after 3 sets had completed, will be crowned as 1st, 2nd and 3rd winners and 2 consolation
prizes.

All participants will earn an e-certificate.

Game Format

Lexicon: CSW 21 (Collins Scrabble Dictionary Edition 2021)

Players per round: 2 in 1 team

1 league will be 3 sets of games. 1 game will be played for 10 minutes.

For the first round, 32 teams will compete with each other as it will consist of 16 matches. If you win
where your team get a higher score than the other, you will proceed to the final round. If you lose, that’s
the end of your game, bye2 see you next year hehe.
Participants shall log in to their accounts on Woogles 10 minutes before the stipulated commencement
time of the game and remain logged on throughout the competition.

During the game

Participants are not allowed to leave their seats for any reason during the game.

Participants are not allowed to have any sort of aid during the competition.

No other electronic gadgets, dictionaries and/or any other persons are allowed to be in the same room
as the participants.

Scrabble Rules

Woogles will decide which player goes first.

Points collected by each player will be counted automatically by the system.

The timer will automatically start counting during your turn.

Once participants have made their play, they are required to click “PLAY”, which will stop their timer and
start the opponent’s timer.

Participants will not be able to pause their timer during the games.

After their plays have been made, the computer will fill the participants’ rack with a random drawing of
tiles.

Participants may exchange tiles by clicking the button “EXCHANGE”. Participants can decide the number
of tiles to be exchanged. Exchanging tiles counts as a play, this will start the timer of their opponents.

In the event participants do not want to make a play or exchange tiles, they may choose to pass by
clicking the button “PASS” and give up that turn, this will start the timer of their opponents.

if the word is invalid, it will automatically be taken out from the board as an error notification will be
popped out and the player who put down the invalid word will need to form a new word.

Participants are prohibited from resigning once the game has started except by the instruction of the
Committee.

The game will only end in the following events –

a) One of the participants has no tiles remaining and there are no tiles to be drawn from the bag;
b) The time of both teams ended.

All the result is final. We will announce the winner after we have done the calculation. The
winners will receive the prize during the English carnival prize-giving ceremony where the date
is not yet to be confirmed.
